I never checked, but I don't know what difference it would have made. My strings are apparently pulled up into my cervix, but according to my doc its not a big deal... until I want to get it removed and then they have to "insert a camera"

I went in for a string check after a month. My doctor told me not to check on my own...

Um, never? At my last appointment, my OB said they had curled up, so I haven’t even tried...

I checked mine maybe 3 times in 4 years, maybe. I could never feel them so I didn’t see the point in trying. Besides the excruciating pain associated with insertion and removal that I figured might give me a heads up if it were dislodged, I figured I’d see it expelled.

I had one prior to DD and the strings were gone by my f/up apt from getting it inserted and they never reappeared. I got it removed 6 yrs later with no issues.

I have never checked them. At my follow-up for both IUD insertions my OB checked them and the strings both times curled around my cervix so I wouldn't have been able to really feel them anyway; OB said this is normal.

I've had 2 Mirena IUDs with no issues with either.

I check maybe 2-3 times a year, it's not something I think about regularly. They are sometimes difficult to find since they curl back around your cervix and I've had to run my finger all the way around my cervix to find them sometimes.

How often do you check your IUD strings? How often can you not feel them?

Searching old posts on here tells me it definitely happens that everything is fine and you just can’t feel it. I haven’t checked my mirena in a long time and wasn’t able to feel them today. I’ll try again tomorrow but curious how often it happens. And what the outcome is!
