He's up! Argh. Woke up at 1140 and I let him cry for about 10...woke back up st 1215 so I came and got him. @mrsyoyo I'm perfectly fine and willing to wait it out. I wondered if he could regress if he never really had the nighttime sleep figured out yet. His naps st daycare are all over the place. They don't let him nap longer than 2 hours (by my request), but he rarely does that. One day he might take 2 2-hour naps, another 3 15 minute naps. But, the good thing is they will at least try and do whatever I tell them to do with him.

The good thing is, MOST of the time he gets up, nurses, pulls off when done and goes back to sleep. It's just the inconsistency that kills me.

@matador84: I was going to kind of say the same thing -- it seems like 10 is awfully late for him to go down, especially if he's awake the whole time after you get him from daycare. But he's also at a classic sleep-regression age, too ... I don't know if you're willing to wait him out a bit, but there's a chance things will improve on their own.

Is he napping well at daycare? I feel like the only thing you really can do is try to be as consistent with him as possible (which I realize is hard when you don't have total control over his schedule) and rule out the possibility that he's overtired by bedtime.

Having said all that, I'm pretty sure my LO woke up twice a night until around 7 or 8 months, though that was in a 12-hour period. But I was often working at home and probably better able to deal with sleep deprivation.

@matador84: Ah, okay. I was confused. I thought you meant that you wanted to know if you needed special gear or something. lol

Honestly, the best thing to keep in mind is that there is no one size fits all. Something that works for every other baby may not work for yours. My best advice is to set a bedtime and a good routine and stick to it. As for night feedings, he's probably a little too young to cut them completely. When C was still waking to eat, I always made sure to keep the lights off and to not talk to her or play with her. She's eat and then go directly back into the crib and I'd leave and go back to bed. I wanted to make sure she knew that night was for sleep, not playtime.

ETA: My daughter was sleeping 6:30pm-8:30am straight through by 6 months old.

@zippylef kind of like things I should be doing. There is just so much out on sleep training I feel like I'm doing it wrong.

I have sort of gradually put him down earlier, but he has either been waking up more often at night and/or for longer stretches, which is horrible for me when I work the next day. I put him down at 8 tonight and he went down with no problem, so it'll be interesting to see how he sleeps tonight. I am off work until January 7, so I want to sleep train him while I have more time at home.

I don't think you really need a checklist. I'm confused what you mean.

Also, have you tried putting him down earlier? 10 is awfully late, especially when you wake him at 6:30am. Our nights got SO much better once we started putting our daughter down early. It was the best sleep advice we got. We had been trying to put her down at 8 and she would fight and it was a nightmare. Eventually, we landed at 6:30 and she sleeps like a dream.

Sleep training seems so overwhelming to me. I have read all the HB guides on sleep training and read the boards on it when it comes up. I don't really want to read any additional books on it because I think the HB guides to a good job of summing it up and I don't want to get bogged down in more methods.

I pretty much single parent during the week...so if you could put together a sleep training checklist...call it "pre-sleep training" what would it have on it?

We don't usually get home from daycare/running errands until 530-6 on weeknights. He goes to daycare M-F. Typically, I feed when we get home at 6, and then put him in his bouncer or playmat while I do things around the house. But, I've gotten into the habit of holding him or playing with him, which kills my time and makes me 10x more tired the next day. His last feeding has been around 830-9 and can last until 10 when I put him in his crib. He's been waking about 2x a night, usually between 12-1 and 3-4. I get him up in the morning around 630a...and he is 17 weeks old. Not sure if any of that info would be helpful to any bees that can help me out?
