@loveisstrange: I was just going to suggest teething as the culprit!

Baking Soda in the bath will be soothing and maybe stick to bland foods and food that will bind your LO up so the poo is more solid.

We've been through this many times, unfortunately. C gets acid butt every time she cuts a tooth. It may be partially a yeast issue. I'd try maybe Lotrimin with a layer of Triple Paste over it. We've had good success with plain coconut oil and Butt Paste also. My favorite is called Metanium, but they don't sell it in the states. :(

And I second probiotics for diarrhea.

ETA: They sell Metanium on Amazon! It's seriously a miracle. http://www.amazon.com/Metanium-Nappy-Rash-Ointment-30g/dp/B000KUALAY

I've had a similar issue with desitin. My LO's doctor suggested using Vaseline til the redness went down.

I'm sorry! Poor DD.

My DD got constipaed rather than vice versa when we first started cows milk, so not sure. But it'd probably be good to back off and see if it helps.

I'm also a fan of probiotics. I give my kids the Flora Udo's Choice powder 3x a day when they have tummy trouble and it helps so quickly. Highly recommend it.

I'm so sorry for both you and baby! My LO had an awful reaction to an antibiotic and it caused a horrific diaper rash. To treat it we smothered him in Triple Paste and let him crawl around in a snapped onesie, with no diaper, to let him air out. Like @kodybear: we also gave him a probiotic {BioGaia drops} and that helped too.

Awww I'm sorry. Poor thing. Maybe even if the dairy isn't causing it, maybe cutting out the milk for a little while might help? Triple paste worked really well for us. And I've heard baking soda or powder ( I don't remember which one) in the bath helps too.

First off, you aren't the worst mother. <3

I don't know anything about it involving milk or what to do about it but I just read a story about diapers themselves causing chemical burns. Just throwing that out there.

@meganmp: What diapers are you using?

did you introduce anything new to her diet except the cows milk. When my DD has too many grapes she starts to get diarrhea and bad diaper rash.

We also found that if she used her pampers cruisers she started to develop a rash so we switched her to Up and Up diapers and so far so good.

So I'm not a mom yet, and you can take this with a grain of salt, but even if the diarrhea wasn't caused by the cow's milk in the first place, you may want to cut it out for now and wait till the diarrhea is completely gone to slowly reintroduce it. Dairy can make an already upset stomach worse. If the diarrhea persists can you try her on the BRAT diet just to try and control it? I assume the sooner the diarrhea clears up, the faster the butt will heal!

And I echo @kodybear: on the probiotic. That should help the diarrhea too.

I have no advice, but I had a friends who's LO had burns on her bottom from her BM being so acidic that it was literally burning through her skin. I can't remember the exact reason, but I think it was at least partly due to her being lactose intolerant. I believe they finally found a formula that her system could handle and no problems with her poop, but she's been having some aversions to eating and the parents are real hesitant about what to feed her now that she's on real food.

What did the doc say to do? If it's gotten worse or started happening again I would call them.

@meganmp: when did she start milk versus when did the diarrhea start? since you said it started before you introduced milk it may be a virus :-( my LO had a bad stomach virus which caused diarrhea/diaper rash for 3+ weeks! i definitely recommend giving her a probiotic (i use florastor kids probiotic powder) and using desitin maximum strength. we had to basically just wait it out tho, but those things definitely helped!

Feeling like mother of the year, right now.

(TMI poo discussion ahead)

DD had some super diarrhea on Sunday, and I changed her as soon as I noticed. She looked a little irritated, so I smeared her with Desitin, as per usual. Monday, the nanny reported that it looked pretty bad, and she had really been on the Desitin. When I changed her, I noticed that the redness had spread, and she was not happy to get her diaper changed. She had some diaper free time, in the hopes that it would help. We told the nanny that if it didn't look better on Tuesday, we'd take her in to the doctor. Well, it was even worse yesterday, and when we took her in she was at the point of shaking and crying when she had to get her diaper changed (cue tears from me). He said that it was probably from the diarrhea, and that it looked like a chemical burn.

Now, I'm not using wipes on her (she gets hosed off with a peri bottle every time she gets changed). but the bad poo came back this morning. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the introduction of cows milk, even though the first bout of diarrhea started before we gave her any. She's also had other dairy before with no problem.

Ahh! I don't know what to do! How can I make my little girl feel better? Should I cut the milk back out? Try a lactose free milk?

Good grief, sorry for the rambling post.
