@Kemma: @MrsSRS: Thank you! I didn't realize that the chest clip's sole purpose is to keep the straps in place - I didn't know it serves no purpose in an actual crash. I talked to Britax and they are sending me a new chest clip to install.

Yeah, that doesn't sound right. We have all britax seats and that doesn't happen to any of ours.

Agree with pp. Don't panic. The chest clip is designed to come apart so as long as the straps are snug and close together you are fine to use the seat while you wait for a new chest clip.

We had this happen (with a different brand) and then it just resolved itself.

It's definitely something to get checked out but the chest clip's main function is to hold the straps in place and will break apart in an accident anyway.

I was buckling my daughter into her car seat today (Britax advocate, purchased in 2014) and noticed that the chest clip comes apart with just minimal pressure (without having to press down on the little latch). You just pull it and it comes apart.

I just emailed Britax but I'm terrified that the car seat isn't safe now. Anyone else had this problem or heard of it? We will be using our spare car seat while we figure out what is going on...
