I think the mucinex might have done the trick! I actually got to sleep in bed last night! I woke up coughing once at 3 a.m., but was able to get back to sleep without having to give up. Thank GOD!!

I worked from home yesterday because I had therapy in the afternoon. My therapist (who's seen me at my lowest after our third loss) told me I looked awful and asked if I was ok.

I was SO tired!

I had a cough that I couldn't shake during my second trimester. It was keeping me up at all hours and I was miserable. I got a prescription for something, but was never really comfortable taking it (and I was supposed to take it every 4 hours, so how was that supposed to help with the waking up in the middle of the night?). What finally helped was using a Neti Pot. I guess I had post-nasal drip that was settling when I laid down to sleep and causing the worst of the cough.

@JennyLayneAZ: Mucinex D makes me really crazy too! I think it's similar to sudafed.

I got the ok for and started regular mucinex though. Now I'm pushing liquids hoping to help it work.

@MaryM: Mucinex, definitely. Its the only thing that helps me anymore, and my Dr approved me taking the Mucinex D while I was pregnant.

@MaryM: Hope you get some relief soon. My allergies are so much worse when pregnant. I'm actually heading to the Dr's this afternoon bc I can't get my asthma under control and it's definitely allergy-related. I've been taking claritin and flonase daily and that seems to keep most symptoms away except the asthma...

I have a call in to my OB's NP to see what they suggest I try next.

I used vapor rub one night (but sources seem conflicted on eucalyptus. I just used a tiny bit right on my nostrils). And have done the sinus rinse...but the issue is now so much in my lungs.

And all of this started while I was already on daily Allegra. I can't go a day without allergy meds or I'm like this all the time. Ugh.

My OB has Mucinex, Sudafed, Tylenol Sinus, and Benadryl all listed as safe. Also, for allergies, Claritin, Zyrtec, and Allegra (and Benadryl, obvi).

ETA: I always run a humidifier nearby and breathe in Eucalyptus essential oils when I’m stuffy, which seems to help too.

ETA (again); Oh...and my nasal rinse!! Also, maybe try taking a unisom at night to help you sleep!

@MaryM: To the extent it's helpful, my OB's office has a list of things they allow and Mucinex is on it. Here is the link to my OB's list: http://womenobgyn.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/MedicationsinPregnancy.pdf. I'd definitely call your doc's office but it sounds like that one might be ok.

@Shantuck: I've been staying away from sudafed because it makes me feel really crazy (like can't sit still, super hyper)

I'm thinking about calling the OB nurse and asking for suggestions today though. Maybe seeing if mucinex might be ok.

Last year when I was in the third trimester, I got a cold that wouldn't quit and eventually turned into a sinus infection. I went to an internist and she had me take sudafed with pseudophedrine. I called my OB's office and was surprised that they were ok with my taking it, too. I took it only as needed and at the lowest dosage and finally kicked my sinus infection. Have you asked your OB's office what they will allow you take? I had just assumed I was going to need to tough it out by taking nothing and using a neti pot.

I don't think mine is bronchitis yet...but I know it's heading that way if I don't get the grossness out soon!

I, too, thought I'd go to the doctor today if it didn't get better...but I'm starting to wonder if "better" is a relative term?? I'm better during the day...but night is still hard!

Well, this is timely because I almost posted the same thing  I have had a horrible chest cold/bronchitis since last Wednesday. Nonstop coughing, coughing up yellow and green mucus. I am only 8wks pregnant though. I decided that if it didn't get better, I would call the doctor today because I probably needed antibiotics. It does seem to be somewhat better today so I am just waiting it out. A hot steamy shower seems to loosen up my chest, which does cause more coughing but I figure at least it is loosening up the mucus.

If you've had one...how on earth did you get it to go away???

My allergies flailed up really bad. Since I wasn't able to take my usual strong decongestants, everything has now settled in my chest.

I can lay down. I've spent two nights sleeping in a recliner. I thought I was getting better yesterday, until I attempted to go to bed.

I've been using flonase and robitussin (only at night, because I WANT to cough the stuff out during the day)

I just want to sleep a full 8 hours again! Preferably, in my bed!
