@MenagerieMama: Not the spitting out thing, but my LO went through a long stage of chewing food and then storing it in his mouth all. day. long. It was so disgusting! It was always worse when he was actively teething, and he completely quit around 21 months or so.

No! Your child is not the only one. My daughter is 19 months old now, but she also went through a phase like this around 14-15 months. She would chew all the food and then spit it out. It was so gross. The only thing that semi helped is if I didn't put as much food on her plate, or only one type of food because I think she was chewing it and then got excited for the next bite and instead of swallowing it would spit it out. Other times though she just did it for no reason. Luckily it passed.

I think something like this happened to me... I believe the problem was teething? Maybe she's teething and wants to just chew on things to make it feel better but not actually hungry to eat it?

So this is weird, but lately my LO (14 mo) has been chewing but then spitting out her food (well, dribbling it into her bib usually). It's food I know she likes and has eaten it many times before. She doesn't do it all the time but it's becoming more often than not in the past week. Dinner last night and lunch today was about 80% spit out (okay dinner last night was probably 95% spit out).

Has your LO done this? Is it a phase? Luckily she's a chunk (and still nursing...not really on purpose!) so I'm not worried about calorie intake, but it's really frustrating to see a meal I prepared not consumed!
