@mrbee: I like to chew crushed ice, so I think it's a little bit softer. It feels a lot softer than many of the other foods I eat (like peanut brittle or something).
@bpcmarj: OMG, the ice in my hospital is soo good too! It is the perfect texture for chewing... I can't wait!

Yesterday I brought home an entire tupperware of my parent's ice because it is much better for chewing than the ice at my house. :)

I have never had iron issues (even with this pregnancy) and I love to chew ice. I normally resist the urge, but lately I can't help myself!

I am like you and looooove to chew ice. But I am not iron deficient. I am actually looking forward to the ice in the hospital I am delivering in because it's kind of soft and perfect for chewing. DH thinks i'm really weird.

I do worry about the effects on my teeth though!

@hellobeeboston: Great point! Ice chewing can definitely be a sign of iron deficiency anemia:

Chewing ice is horrible for your teeth!! I used to do it all the time, but after learning how bad it is for you I cut way down:

I've never done it, but I feel like there are worse things you could be chewing on. They have those tv shows about people who like to chew chalk....

@Mrsdaredevil: I used to chew ice all the time - I was totally obsessed with it for years! It actually turned out I was iron deficient, and when I got my iron levels back up I couldn't stand it - so weird! But you may want to check and make sure your iron levels are ok!

I don't think it's really that bad for you though - and it's zero calories! Haha

I cannot chew ice because my teeth are super sensitive. My husband chews ice all the time and it actually hurts MY teeth hearing him chew it!

Since about 30 weeks pregnant I have not been able to stop chewing ice. I mean, it's CONSTANT. I have to fill my cup up with extra ice, and then when I finish drinking my water I chew every thing that's left. I have even learned what kind of ice I love to chew and which ice I don't (I love the ice from my parents' house, hate the ice at my in-laws).
In fact, the reason I am on the computer right now is because I was chewing ice in bed and my husband said I was keeping him awake, so I came into the family room to finish chewing.

Does anyone else do this? Is it terribly bad for me? I just can't stop!
