Thank you all so much for your recommendations! Now to try to see where we can get a table, and how to fit them all in!

Thanks again!

@woodentulip: Tempo is a beloved breakfast favorite of mine that I miss dearly! The *best* omelettes and skillets ever! (http://www.tempochicago.com/)

Chicago Q is a great and surprisingly kid friendly spot. They have a kids menu with non-bbq offerings that my picky kid loved.

@woodentulip: There are a bunch of restaurants we like in the area around your hotel (and to be honest, with a 6 and 8 year old, they can go anywhere - we take our 5.5 year old and 15 month old anywhere!). Carmine's is great classic red-sauce Italian; Shanghai Terrace in the Peninsula hotel is delicious Chinese (but really nice, very friendly to kids, and exceptional service) - if you go there, try to sit on their beautiful patio; I had a really nice lunch at Little Beet Table a couple months ago, very fresh and somewhat healthy; I have heard that Purple Pig is fantastic - we didn't get to go this time, but it's on our list. Outside River North/Gold Coast, we haven't been to Little Goat but The Girl and the Goat is so amazing; we also had a great meal at Publican, which is a really fun atmosphere too, with big communal tables - I thought it was great with kids actually (and the food is delicious). So many great restaurants in Chicago - have a wonderful time!

@ChitownRo: I am surprised that there aren't other restaurants that aren't chains! I mean, it doesn't have to be within the block--we will be on foot mostly but happy to walk 30 mins or take transit.

Our kids aren't young--they are 6 and 8.

In that neighborhood, options are either chains (Grand Lux) that welcome kids or restaurants that aren’t as kid friendly.
I’m not sure how old your kids are or if you are going to venture elsewhere like the beach or zoo. If going to the (free) Lincoln Park Zoo, then there are lots more kid friendly options (RJ Grunts is right there)

@macintosh: we are staying at the Sheraton Grand-likely sticking to that area aside from our venture to the Little Goat..

We loved Wildberry pancakes with my toddler. It was loud, busy, and good food. Very kid friendly.

Hello!

We are going as a family for a long weekend in Chicago. The last time we went it was just my husband and I, and I am excited to go with my kids, but want to still enjoy some good food.

We will go to Lou Malnati's for pizza and have plans to go to the Little Goat for dinner one night, but would love another dinner suggestion or two...are there any kid friendly not mega chain restos that you would suggest?

Thanks so much!
