We took ours when we were 27 weeks and I thought we'd be the only super-early ones, but there were lots of people due around our due date and even later.

the holidays screw everything up!

I picked three weeks, but in all honesty, I would schedule it sooner, like no later than a month before your DD. I gave birth 3.5 weeks early, so I'm glad we were done with our class series well before that (we had our last class about 7 weeks before my DD).

I would take it at least a month before your due date. The last month is really physically exhausting and I can't imagine being in a class for two straight days while super pregnant.

We're doing a one-day crash course (also due to DH's schedule) this weekend, which will be 11 weeks before the EDD. I don't think it's really anything you can forget... at least, I'm pretty sure I'll remember the gory details of everything they tell us! I prefer to be prepared, so 2 weeks before would absolutely freak me out. So given your choices, I voted for 3 weeks before!

I do think it's good to go to the class though. Usually you'll start laboring at home first and it'll help to learn some techniques to ease the pain. Also I liked being educated on all of my options, even though I knew I wanted an epi it made me feel better about it. But I was then also informed on natural childbirth in case my epi failed me.

@shopaholic: Yep! We figured people have been parenting since forever and as long as we knew how to change diapers and bathe the baby we were good. :)
I nursed, but didn't take a class either. Our hospital had lactation consultants who came by to talk to and help new mothers so figured that would be enough.

I would do it earlier rather than later, I wouldn't worry about forgetting things. The further along you are, the more uncomfy you are. And if your hospital is anything like ours, the chairs are sooooo uncomfy. You have to sit there for hours in those uncomfy chairs and its' no fun.

@shopaholic: No classes at all. Everything was fine! You're not alone during l&d. There are people (nurses) everywhere encouraging you and coaching you. If they're not being encouraging request another one! Besides, taking a class doesn't determine what kind of l&d you will have.

@Arden: Can you do that class solo? DH doesn't have time for weekly classes with his work schedule.

@chopsuey119: LOL! He was not OK w/that after NYE class, so it looks the V-day weekend it will have to be. Maybe we can squeeze in "romantical time" after the Sat. class, but we might not want to after what we'll learn! lol!

@chopsuey119: & @c.sassy: No classes though, really? And it was all OK for you both?

I agree with @c.sassy. That's true, if you have a doula you may not need the classes. The doula can walk you through before and during, so you won't forget anything.

@shopaholic: We didn't take a class, so take this with a grain of salt. All of our friends told us that the classes are more for the dads. Moms are going to forget things during labor anyway. I forgot everything that I had read! Our doula was well worth the $.

ETA: I was pretty freaked out by what would happen "down there." I LOVED every second of labor and delivery. It was fantastic! Just remember, billions of women have had babies, survived, and continued to be just fine.

@shopaholic: Maybe you should try Hypnobabies! It's fantastic for getting rid of the fear surrounding childbirth. I chose it because I've seen so many births, and the women that used this program had easier, calmer, and less painful births. They were calm and in control, and that made the entire thing go more smoothly.

@shopaholic: Well mine is Hypnobabies, so I keep practicing at home all the way up to the EDD.
Plus, I'm a doula, so I'm taking this more for the hypno training than the actual childbirth education - I already know what to expect with birth.

Due to DHs crazy schedule, we are going to do a 2-Day weekend super jam child birthing class. We were thinking of doing it 2 weeks before our DD but then I am worried if that is cutting it too close? What if baby comes earlier?

Our only other weekend before that would be 3 weeks prior to DD, but DH mentioned it would be the weekend we could celebrate Valentine's Day. lol. serious issues huh? I also don't want to take it too soon because I'm worried I'd forget everything! Which weekend would you do?
