We decided not to take classes and don't regret the choice. I figured that my body would know what to do when it came time.

Our hospital offers three different pregnancy/birth classes and since all are free, when the time comes, we'll take at least two, if not all three.

I took lots of classes. Most of them I didn't find very helpful, but I'm still glad I took them b/c I would have just sat there freaking out that I was missing something.

My favorite class was breastfeeding. I came back raving about the class, loved everything about it and couldn't wait to start breastfeeding. I lasted a week. I'm still glad I took the class, I probably wouldn't have even made it that long without it.

I had a good experience with the child birth class I took but maybe it was because the instructor worked for the hospital. We went through the different stages of labor, breathing techniques, hospital procedures, and the hospital tour. I like how it was all pertinent to my hospital. Sure you can google a lot of things but I guess I am lazy and just wanted someone to tell me everything in a few hours and then I was done with it.

I also took child care and breastfeeding classes at my hospital but I found those less useful because there are just way too many things to cover and they can't possibly do it in a few hours. I think you're better off doing your own research for breastfeeding. And for child care, google as you go along!

I used the Bradley Method of birthing, but found out about it too late into my pregnancy to take the class.

The book was a very effective tool for my labor, but a class with some more directed practice would've been nice.

This go round my midwife is letting me use some hypno-birthing tapes she has =)

I say if the class isn't too much it would be worth taking for sure! (I've heard some of them being WAY too much so mommas decided against them)

Hi All! Currently 6 months pregnant and started researching the childbirth and infant care classes offered at the hospital I'll be delivering at. I just had my monthly check up last Saturday and when I asked my doctor which classes she recommended, she didn't really state which ones BUT she did say that a lot of the classes now are taught by individuals contracted into the hospital and may "teach" their own opinions/beliefs, etc, which then may interfere with delivery (ie: moms coming in with a strict birthplan and not being flexible when a issue arises because they want to stick to their birthplan).

Which classes did you take? Did you find it helpful or a waste of time/money? (I mean, with the internet now, can't you google pretty much everything?)
