We've had two OOT weddings the past couple of months where children weren't welcome, so we paid for each of our parents to come to our house to babysit for the weekend (Dhs parents are 8 hours drive away, my mom is 2.5 hour flight away).

It IS expensive, but these are both close friends and we wanted to attend and it's less stress for us to have someone watch LO in our home, where she's in a familiar environment (plus, she's a terrible sleeper in new environments so taking her to a hotel would guarantee no one sleeps at all on the trip---booo).

I agree that if the groom says they are welcome, I would still consider bringing them. But if you don't want to, could you hire a local babysitter? Maybe the bride or groom have friends with kids who could recommend someone?

I'm going to a family wedding, not local to anyone in my family, in June, and DH will be back home taking an exam. So I asked my one friend who lives near the wedding for a babysitter recommendation. I'm having her old nanny come and stay at the hotel with my almost two year old. It's not ideal but I trust the babysitter since my friend did, and I can always leave early if it's a problem.

I'm missing something. Why does black tie mean no children? The groom said they were welcome, yes? I'd probably take them and leave when necessary, unless the couple's wishes have changed. The older one will probably get a kick out of seeing everyone dressed up and dancing!

Yeah, could you hire a babysitter through the hotel? That's what I would do.

We recently went to a wedding with DS (17mo) - he came along with us for the ceremony and meal, and then I took him off and put him to bed in the hotel room (still at the venue). We hired a local babysitter (recommended by the hotel) who came and sat outside our hotel room with the baby monitor for the evening. It cost about £60, perhaps something like that would be an option for you guys?

My husband is a groomsmen in a wedding out of town in Nov. the same weekend our in town family is going to a separate out of town wedding. At the time of the wedding we will have a 2.75 yr old and a 3 month old.

The groom told us to book our room already because they were running low so we did. I also had my husband ask if it is okay to bring the kids and the groom said yes, but when the save the date came and I went to their website it says it is black tie. We have already booked hotel and airfare so we are going, but I don't know what to do about the kids. Here are the options I have thought of.
1. Ask my BFF to stay at the hotel that night. She lives 1.5 hours away from the wedding and we have plans to hang out anyway. Downfall is she has a 1&5 yr old of her own that then her hubby would have to watch.

2. Fly my mom in. We could pay for her ticket, but that is gonna be $450.

3. Go, but have me just stay with the kids and not attend the events.

Any other ideas? What would you do?
