It depends how long I will be gone. If it's like a doctor appt's time frame then I don't have to use PTO. If I'd be gone for a like 3+ hours then it'd be tough.

DC-FMLA has a provision allowing time for children's school activities. Just like other DC-FMLA you can use any paid leave benefits or take the time unpaid. You do have to let your employer know at least 2 weeks in advance.

I could technically shift my hours depending on timing. Our mother day tea was at 2:30 pm and I get off work at 4:30. It's kind of hard to make up 2.5 hours here and there.

I WFH and no one tracks my hours or where I am, when. I just block it off on my work calendar. We have unlimited PTO anyway, but that's just used if we are taking the whole day off.

My work is very family oriented, thankfully. I'm usually able to either work through lunch, shift my hours, or my boss will just tell me to go and not worry about it.

Generally no, but I try to be conscious of my employer's time if at all possible and not go to every single event my daycare puts on, every single year. For example, this was the first year I've gone to a mother's day event at LO's school and she's been in daycare for over 3 years.

If it's around lunch, which most are, I'd take a long lunch. If it's in the morning or end of the day, I'd work through lunch instead. It helps that our daycare is only 5 minutes or so from my office.

Where I work is very flexible, so I could shift my hours around or work from home and go over there for an hour. We also have "unlimited" PTO so if I don't make up the hours it's not tracked. With that said, I've never gone to a daycare party or event. They just had a mother's day thing yesterday, and I had an OB appointment at that time. Plus, IDK how DS would handle it if I come in for an hour and then leave. Maybe when he's a little older.

It depends.

We get 1 hour per month for "childrens school activities"

After that we can try to flex it out (work later or earlier one day in the month). This doesn't always work because I take the kids to school in the mornings (usually running late) and try to get home to help cook dinner before bed (staying late isn't an option). We have to legally take 30 min lunch break.

After that, yes, we have to use PTO.

Ours are at the worst times. Usually starting around 10am. So you either have to take a 1/2 pto day or not go at all. I missed the last one because it was scheduled at 10am on a Monday, two days before my daycare closed for a week of spring break.

My answer is a combintion of No and I can shift my hours around. Assuming it's on a day where I am local, I can work from home and pop out for an hour or so to attend the event. Then I just make up the hours later, or bill less weekly hours.

Yes, I have to use my own time to pay for it. Our schedules are really strict about breaks and leave-times...I can't work through lunch and leave early, or stay late. If I'm 2 minutes late for work I have to put in a leave request to cover it.

If your childcare has an event that you want to go to, do you have to take vacation/PTO time to attend it? Today my daughter's class is having a Mother's Day event at 4pm. The company I work for doesn't let people leave before 5pm so I either have to work late some other time next week (didn't happen this week for various reasons) or take PTO to go. Ugh.
