My LO is 27 months and is still considered a "younger 2" which means he still has a 3:1 ratio, which I love. He'll move up to the "older 2s" room in about a month, where the ratio is 6:1.

The rules in my state:

Birth to 2 years - 1 caregiver for every 4 children
2 year olds 1 caregiver for every 8 children
3 to 5 year olds 1 caregiver for every 10 children
Ages 5 years and up - 1 caregiver for every 16 children
Special requirements apply for mixed age groups.

It's 1:4 at the in-home daycare we're using. Sometimes 1:2 if her husband (an RN) or her college age kid (home for the summer) helps out, too

Holy cow! Our state is 1:5. Babies under one year is 1:4 but they usually keep a 1:3.

It's 1:12 here and I'm not a fan. My MIL worked in a daycare in the 2 year old room and clearly could not handle that many small children. I'm glad we'll be moved to a state where the ratio is 1:8 by the time E is 2.

Hm. I'm not sure - I should ask!

ETA: I know they are in the process of getting accredited so I can only assume they follow this chart!

it's 1 to 8 here. I'm SO glad her class isn't lie the old one before I moved her. There were sometimes 16 kids to one teacher. She stayed there a week. That was effing ridiculous and yes, there were a lot of accidents, thankfully she wasn't one of them.

Our state has a 1:11 ratio for two year old. That blows my mind there could be two teachers with over 20 little kids! Throw in potty training and naps, it would be mad house! We looked at another daycare that was smaller but that meant there was one teacher with 10 kids with no back up!

Luckily our daycare center is accredited which means they keep a a 1:8 ratio for students and have three teachers assigned to a max of 20 students (max of 20 based on sq ft of room). I'm much more comfortable with that!
