J is just over 20 months and doesn't fit the 18m description, he seems to fit the 2 year description better. However he has always been really good at sharing and never protested- it's kind of odd. I feel like I'm still waiting for him to get defiant about sharing.

He's been a pretty easy going toddler for the most part, the hardest though is the whining. He doesn't have many tantrums or fits but a lot of clingy whiny behavior.

He is also quite affectionate- but one descriptions was treating people as objects- that's so him. He likes to create games that involve us as toys. For example he'll come to me while I'm sitting in the floor and just push me over for no reason, then offer his hand and "help" me up. The he will push me again just so he can help me and he thinks it is the funniest thing.

My LO is 17.5 months old, 16 months adjusted and he loves the word "no" but he follows instructions. BUT he has limitless energy and does tantrum when he gets frustrated.

@Mrs. High Heels: you have no idea how happy I am to hear that... OMG, I was certain C was starting the terrible twos early. It's been bad.

But yeah, she's 19 months and fits a mixture of the 18m and 2 year bullets, mostly the 18m ones though.

interesting. thank you for sharing.

some of these fit my 18-month old (almost 18-months to the day!). she does tantrum easily and she needs lots of outlets for her energy. she gets frustrated often and shows her frustration through tantrumming.

however, she shows lots of compassion (for adults and babies), DEFINITELY is motivated by words, follows instructions, and does not use "no" very often. she is able to wait for what she wants sometimes (if I tell her to be patient, she will wait quietly ), and is really great at sharing with kids her own age.

My 19 month old fits the 2 description, she talks so much and listens to directions, that the frustration phase has passed. Super interesting!

@Mrs. High Heels: glad to hear things improved at 2! Especially considering C isn't even quite 18 months yet!

@pinkcupcake: that is awesome that you guys seemed to have dodged a tough phase. I hope your LO embraces that chill 2 year old phase well into her 2's.

@Mrs. Confetti: That's so interesting! My daughter is now 20.5 months old, and I feel like she fits the description of a 2 year old more than 18 month old. I think the only 18 month old description she fits is her inability to wait. She's very much a people pleaser and is always wanting to help, follow directions, etc.

@Mrs. High Heels: I think the hardest time for me was about 10 months - 16 months. I remember being terrified of her turning 18 months because I had heard about some kids having an early start to the terrible 2s, but surprisingly, she's been so easy since about 18 months. I'm hoping this doesn't mean she'll turn difficult again when she's 2! :T

@Mrs. Confetti: 18-23 months were the hardest months for me in Noelle's entire life! So much so that I distinctly remember how hard that age range was. I thought I just had an early start to the "terrible twos", but once she entered the 2's everything improved!

http://centerforparentingeducation.org/library-of-articles/child-development/child-development-by-age/#eighteenmonths

Every single bullet for 18-month-old is an exact description of my child. Spot on. Makes me feel so much better to know that the frustration that comes with toddlerhood is not unique to me, and that at least the first 6 months of age 2 are supposed to get a bit better (even if it then gets worse at 2.5).

Does your child fit the bill for his/her development by age?
