@mamabolt: @DesertDreams88: @graceandjoy: thank you! I don't think it's causing her discomfort, but hopefully the dentist can at least look and confirm it's not a deep chip, and that it's done cracking...

And definitely glad they get "practice teeth" Baby's big brother lost four baby teeth after he face-planted after falling down the stairs. Good thing they were due to fall out anyway!

My daughter fell at daycare when she was around 15 months old and lost about 1/4 of her front tooth. We brought her to the dentist and they assured us that it was nowhere near the nerve and that we could come back at age 3/4 when she was old enough to sit still for a cosmetic procedure. My daughter is now 3 and as she has gotten bigger, the chip looks smaller. We don't plan to have any cosmetic procedures done since this is a baby tooth anyway and she will likely lose it around 6/7 years old.

My daughter has a chip in one of her front teeth. I never noticed it until she went to the dentist. We aren't doing anything about it, and nothing was suggested. Its small and its a baby tooth. My friend's kid actually chipped his front tooth at my house and its pretty big. They took him to the dentist immediately and, again, nothing was done.

Yep my 3 year old fell and chipped off half her top front tooth. Dentist said as long as the edge wasn’t sharp/bothering her, nothing to be done.

My son chipped the corners of both of his front teeth. The dentist can't / won't do anything about it unless it's a significant crack. Then all they can do is pull it, or put a cap on it, and usually the caps fall off.

My daughter chipped both her front teeth at 10 months. Unless a nerve is exposed and causing pain or there’s a sharp edge cutting her lip/ tongue nothing has to be done! As a wise friend told me, this is why they get a practice set of teeth.

My son chipped his front tooth when he was about 18 months also - he fell and hit his lip on a stool. The dentist just keeps an eye on it, but as long as it isn’t jagged or bothering him he said he won’t do anything about it, the tooth will fall out eventually. :)

My daughter chipped one of her front teeth when she was about 18 months old. It was a tiny chip in the corner of the tooth. Our dentist said given its size, as long as it wasn't bothering her, we'd just leave it as is. Hers has been stable since it happened, but the dentist takes a look at it when she goes in for cleanings to be sure it's still okay.

I hope you can get an appointment soon for some reassurance. :)

Has anyone's LO chipped a tooth? Did you have to do anything about it? What?

My fourteen-month-old had a tiny little nick in her front tooth a month ago. I don't know how it happened, but one day I noticed it and kept an eye on it. Yesterday I noticed that it's become a slightly bigger chip. It doesn't seem to bother her but I don't know if she's now going to need some kind of work done on her tooth. I'm going to call a dentist soon but am kind of freaking out - what will they need to do? Will she need to be sedated? I can't even get her to open her mouth long enough for me to get a good look...
