I see mine about every other week because my joints are too flexible causing me really awful hip pain. I saw him before I got pregnant with N, while I was pregnant with N, and I continue to see him. The visit is $35 a visit but I really don't mind. :)

My sister used a chiropractor during her pregnancy and looooved it! She called me everyday after her appointments to fill me in.

If I was smarter I would have started seeing one before I got pregnant. I have mild scoliosis and a history of back pain. I'm only 9 weeks and my back pain is already bad!

I will probably end up seeing one soon!

I worked for a chiropractor all through my first pregnancy so I had regular appointments. I LOVED it! Actually sometimes on breaks I would just lay on the table (since you can lay on your stomach) and that alone was worth it! HAHA

I see a chiro who specializes in pregnancy, he's amazing! I never have aches/pains and have been feeling really good, especially with an expanding belly! Im hoping that my pelvis will be aligned and that I'm able to birth this babe vaginally.

I was having some really life ruining pain from carry my toddler around before she could walk. I felt the same way about chiropractors. My husband eventually told me to go see one or to quit my bitching, so I did. Best choice I ever made. He almost totally cured me, and showed me ways to strengthen the muscles that are so weak. I'm officially a convert.

I currently go to the chiropractor every week and I LOVE her. I'm 9 weeks pregnant, but I've been taking my daughter to her since she was 8 months old. We started going because we were waiting for a physical therapy appointment for my daughter and I thought I would give chiro a chance in the meantime. The PT totally scoffed at us as to why in the world we would take her to a chiro, but our chiro helped us SO much more than PT ever did.

She's been such an invaluable resource for nutrition for my daughter, midwife recommendations, and such an amazing advocate for doing everything we can for natural birth. Basically, she's amazing.

We are on a payment plan with a monthly withdrawal. It works out to be $45/visit, but she sees my daughter for free, so it's a great deal for us, especially because we can submit it through flex spending.

How many visits a month do you get with the family plan? Even if you only get one visit per month per person, that is an AMAZING deal for $100! I'm going to ask our chiro if there's any way we can work out some kind of deal like that! It's $45 a visit and that means we only go when we really, really need to (I'm not pregnant right now, I'll cough up the money to go then). I am a huge, huge fan of chiropractic care during pregnancy. Not only does it help mom feel better, but it's so helpful for getting baby in an optimal position for an easier delivery. My DD was breach (breech? Dammit, I always forget how to spell it) at 32 weeks and while that's not really something to be alarmed at since there's still plenty of time to flip, I wanted to be proactive and not worry about fighting for a vaginal breech delivery or for the right to go into labor on my own before a c-section for breech, so I went to our chiropractor for the Webster and a general adjustment and after my second visit at 34 weeks, literally in the car on the way home, DD started these huge movements and I knew she was going head down. Sure enough, a day or two later, my doctor confirmed it. And then I kept going for adjustments every week or so until delivery. I still had a long labor (25 hours with DD- but I'd gone 26 hours with DS), but only 2 hours of really intense labor and less than a minute of pushing and I like to think my chiropractic care had a hand in that.

Yeah, I love my chiro! I went naturally and I don't know if she helped, but sure didnt hurt! DD saw her at 4 days old. We're on a plan to share 72 visits over a year and its $210 per month, so I would definitely sign up for a plan that was only $100!

@blackbird: Good to know! My sacrum issues are definitely pregnancy-related and I was mostly managing them with foam rolling and using lacrosse balls to really get in there and release the "crunchy" bits. But I've noticed that the left side of my sacrum has gotten worse in the last couple weeks.....which, interestingly, coincides with the baby flipping from had down to breech.......

At 13 weeks along I had major back issues (sent me to the ER because I was so paralyzed by the pain), and since my insurance covered it, I went very often. I have a bulging disk in my lower back, so I had more than just the normal pregnancy back pain, but I def felt an improvement after each visit. Would I have gone if I had to pay for it out of pocket? I’d probably would have gone a few times, but not weekly like I did since it was covered by my insurance.
I also made sure to go back within a couple weeks of having LO to get re-aligned, and I think it really helped me.

@blackbird: I've noticed that too! I have actually talked more to my chiropractor in 3 visits (one consultation, two therapy/adjustment sessions) about my pregnancy and birth than I have my actual OB! He and his wife are so supportive that I almost feel like its worth it for that reason alone. I can add DH and the baby (and any additional babies we have someday) to the plan for only an additional 30 a month total.

I started seeing a chiro at 28 wks this pregnancy and it seriously helped me. That horrible stiffness in my back is gone! Don't get me wrong, you'll still have PG aches they can't do anything about, but even now my back feels MUCH better than before.

I think where the wacko stuff comes in is when some start talking about how they can cure cancer or help your bipolarness...my chiro says it's those crazies that give the rest of them a bad name.

$70 a month is definitely worth it - I was spending $35 per visit, so $70-105 per week! I did think it helped with labor, because we were able to use some of the counter-pressure techniques she'd shown me during my treatment. Plus, just having so many conversations with her about how our bodies are built for this helped. I ended up getting an epidural, but only because I'd labored for 16 hours and didn't dilate over 1cm, and I was so exhausted I was worried if I didn't get rest I wouldn't have energy for delivery.

I've been seeing my chiropractor throughout my whole pregnancy. he is AMAZING. I have pain? He fixes it. I pay $45/visit...and i see him every other week. But not going is not an option.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with my chiropractor!

PS i do think that some healthcare professionals can feel threatened by a more holistic approach. I have some major alignment issues and I just don't believe that anybody other than a chiropractor can put my bones back in their place!

Plus, you know who told me all about how important squats are for labor and why? My chiropractor. Vaginal massage? My chiropractor. How to manually rub your face to drain sinuses? My chiropractor! He also gives nutrition advice. He is the best!

Eta; i will be seeing him asap post partum. Lots of women get their coccyx and lower back really jacked up in labor. And i'll have him take a look at the baby, too. I've seen him 'fix' crying babies. Crazy, I know.

@littlebug: How much do you think your chiropractor helped with your actual labor and delivery? I'm planning a natural birth and I'm SOLD if its as big of a help as I've heard it is :) He and his wife are huge advocates of natural unmedicated birth, and had their two children that way so that helps sway me. My hesitation is the cost ($70/month over the course of a year).

I started seeing a prenatal chiropractor around 32 weeks and it felt wonderful. I saw her 2 our 3 times a week, and I always felt a difference after every visit. Not only did she do adjustments, but we also talked about labor and delivery a lot and she gave me lots of tips and things for Hubs to do to help me manage my pain. I look forward to resuming my care with her soon (I'm 4 weeks pp, waiting to be cleared by my OB), and also plan to have her check out D to make sure he doesn't have any lingering issues from delivery.

Have any of you sought chiropractic care? What about during pregnancy?

I just started with a prenatal chiropractor and I LOVE it. I was having a lot of pelvic girdle pain and after two sessions it has lessened a lot. However, I still feel a little skeptical. I work in the medical field and I know a lot of doctors and physical therapists are cynical about chiropractors. I would love to hear others' thoughts!
