We had some trouble when a bunch of younger kids were added to my oldest's 2-3 preschool program. When she started she was one of the younger kids (class was for 2y3m -3y6m and she started at 2y6m) but some aged out and the new kids were just too young for her.
For the summer they put her in a grade ahead of where she should be and she has just blossomed with the 4-5.5y class.

DD1 did better as one of the younger ones at that age, maybe because she's already bigger and more talkative than kids her age. when the older kids moved up and she stayed in the same room where younger kids took their place, she had a bit of regression and acting out.

I think it can also vary by kid and by situation but I prefer my son to be on the younger end of his class and in your case, that's probably what I'd choose too.

I really think it depends on your kid. My DD has generally been one of the younger ones in her daycare class, but also did a preschool program last year that follows the local school district age cutoffs and was one of the oldest in that class (her birthday is in December but most of the other kids were spring/summer babies). We found that she definitely does better being one of the youngest. In her preschool class, she didn't really have any interest in playing with other kids and ended up being a bit of a bully because she was so much bigger and more verbal than the others. I'm hoping this changes as they all get older and are better able to interact and play together because if it stays this way, I'm a little nervous about how she'll do in kindergarten and beyond. But I think it's really important to give things a try so you learn what your kid needs and can make informed decisions! So if you're leaning toward having her with a bit older kids, I'd listen to your gut instincts.

So our Lo will turn 3 at the end of October. Our choices seem to be to put her 2-3 yo parents morning out program where she'd be one of the oldest with a decent amount of young 2s or a 2.5 -3.5 yo preschool program where she'd be on the younger side (though there are kids her age). She's always been a talker and is used to playing with her big sister so I'm heavily leaning towards the 2.5 - 3.5.

But I feel like the trend nowadays is to want your kid to be on the older side - and my older daughter did have a little bit of trouble when we moved and was put in a class where she was the youngest by a decent chunk.
