Thanks everyone! Going to put the arms reach cosleeper back against the bed tonight and will try it that way with a wedge underneath and towels rolled up on his sides. I'd feel better with him right next to me like that.

@oahujeni: oh and yea, I don't think that would work in a rock n play, id be too worried about rolling forward in that...but in a crib or pack n play it would work, I would invest in a crib wedge that keeps them at an incline like the rock n play

@oahujeni: I was nervous to try it at first, but we started having her sleep on her side at night around 4 weeks maybe? She has always hated her back and would constantly choke/gag/grunt all night on her back, so we tried the side and have her crib at and incline with one of those wedges for reflux. We just roll blankets very tightly on her sides so she cannot roll forward, and with her one arm out anyways, she can't really roll forward as it is. For naps she sleeps on her tummy tho. I know they say back is the safest but our Lo hated it due to her reflux, and the gagging and chokibg was very worrysome to me, and we just keep a close eye on her and with the video monitor it is easy to do

My LO did this and she has reflux as well. She has only done it once since being on meds. Even though they say put them to sleep on their back, she hates sleeping on her back, so she sleeps on her side and tummy.

@oahujeni I would either roll a towel and put under matters or get a crib wedge.

@NovBaby1112: I was always told to keep them on their backs when sleeping? What age did you start putting LO on her side and do you think that would work in a Rock n Play?

My son used to. do this all the time when he was an infant. And it would freak me out too! He would make like gurgling and choking noises and my Dh and I would jump out of bed and burp him, just like you do! My son also spit up alot so our ped put him on reflux meds and after taking it his. nighttime choking incidents stopped. Maybe talk to you ped about it. Does your LO spit up alot during the day?

Twice in the past week LO has "choked" in the middle of the night. It's horrifying and DH and I both jump out if bed while I grab him and start smacking his back (like im burping him) until he finally sucks in air normally. Both times it didn't seem like he was breathing but I was also in a panic so who knows. Both times were around an hour and a half after he just ate. If your LO has reflux is this what happens? What do you do to help avoid these choking episodes at night... It is scary! He is 5 weeks and sleeps in a rock n play so is on an incline already.
