@nana87: @Anya: @SweetiePie: thank you all so much! It's strange to not have an answer but I'm glad babe is safe at the moment. Interested to hear if they will want to retest or induce at any point if I'm still itchy. For now trying to ignore it!

@Revel: great news!
Cooler showers (as cool as you can stand) help reduce itch (hot water worsens).
You can also ask your doc about Sarna anti-itch lotion if it bothers you particularly badly at certain points of the day. It really works.
I also used an Aveeno body wash, it was called calming or itch relief. I'll try to find it.

@Revel: phew! So glad to hear. With my crazy itchiness, oatmeal baths helped a little, but mostly it just got better after giving birth (but like a week after, not right away...)

@Anya: @SweetiePie: @nana87: got the notice this morning that my results from the bile acid test were normal! That was fast for the blood draw on sunday afternoon. I've asked for a copy of the actual result. Still itchy but it continues to be mild so perhaps it's just a late pregnancy thing, can't remember if this happened with my daughter or not. I'll find out more I assume at my appointment tmrw. Thank you all for sharing your experiences, it's been helpful!

@Revel: @Anya: Yea I also remember being like "if days matter in this situation, 10 days is a LONG time to wait!" It was a scary 10 days. Mine did take the full 10 (and I'm in NYC with some of the best hospitals). So I should say I was 35 when I mentioned the itching to my OB and she ordered the blood test just in case. Said it wasn't likely, just a precaution. Then they came back elevated around 36+5 or so while I was on a mini vacation (only 1.5 hours from home) and I had to cut the trip short and go to an MFM in my city right away. And he's the one who then said def by 38, sooner if possible. Like I said mine were just above the threshold for "elevated" so while I was almost 37 weeks it wasn't an emergency "get to the hospital immediately". But I was in the hospital being induced 2 days later.

Keep us posted! Hope everything is alright and you can go into labor on your own as you wish!

@Anya: yes, had one yesterday at l+d and supposed to schedule another for thurs around my weekly midwife appointment, and then twice weekly until I deliver.

Also supposed to pay attention to baby and my itching, if the itching gets severe I should go back in. At this point I can't tell how real the itching is or how much of it is psychosomatic though, it's tough.

@Revel: it's ridiculous how long the test takes. I agree with @SweetiePie: mentally prepare yourself that you'll be going in immediately, just in case. Are you having repeat NSTs in the meantime?

@SweetiePie: thanks! Yes we brought everything yesterday actually because they mentioned induction on the phone. I guess I don't fit the classic symptoms and my liver labs were all good so they are ok to wait at this point. I was honestly kind of surprised they let us go. I hear it can be 10 days for the bilr labs but I'm in a big city at a major hospital so they said they hoped they would have them this week. I'm trying to get ok with the fact that we might meet this guy within the week and stay as calm as possible.

@nana87: thanks for sharing your experience! I was induced with my first but that was after my water broke, so this feels different.

@Anya: thanks! Yeah I'm having trouble bc everything I read says induction at 37 weeks but I'm not even diagnosed yet! I'm 38 weeks on friday so I'm hopeful that my results will come in this week so if positive I could be induced at or around 38, which seems to still be within normal limits for cholestasis. Just struggling with the worry about baby, although I know the condition is super rare.

I was diagnosed right around 36.5 weeks. They induced me at 37+2. Mine were elevated but still on the lower end of elevated so they said between 37-38 weeks would be fine, the earlier the better. They would never allow anyone past 38 weeks and if you were already past 38 at diagnosis they will do it immediately. Or if they are extremely elevated they won't go past 37 (though I don't know the threshold number).

So I would have everything packed and be prepared that they may call you and tell you to go to L&D immediately.

I was diagnosed at 35 weeks and induced at 37. If your bile acids come back high you will likely be induced straight away. I went into labor naturally at 41w with my first so I was really thrown but it was a successful induction. Good luck- i hope you don't have it!

I didn't end up having cholestasis (all my tests came back fine) but had horrible itching starting around 39-40 weeks, on my legs, belly, shoulders. It started on my ankles, not feet or hands. I ended up being induced at 41 weeks, mostly because I was already overdue but the itchiness was a factor since I was uncomfortable. I was also induced with my first at 37 weeks (for a different issue--low fluid) so I knew induction worked well for my body : both times it took a long time for me to fully dilate/baby to descend but once they were I was able to push quickly and without much tearing.

I'm 37+3, was seen at l+d yesterday for itching, which is relatively mild but was on my feet for a while on sat pm. I can mostly ignore it at this point but it is there, mostly arms/legs/belly at this point. Midwives and docs were concerened about cholestasis, all checks on baby and my labs looked good, including liver, but the diagnostic bile salt/acid test takes longer so we are waiting on that one. Induction was discussed but I really want to go into labor on my own and given I don't have a diagnosis yet they opted to send me home and wait for the results, with extra nst and for me to pay attention to how I'm feeling.

Of course now I'm second guessing my decision and worrying about baby.

Curious if there's anyone on here who had cholestasis, particularly with diagnosis this late?
