@mediagirl: I would still say see what options he has on the $4/10 plan at places. $20/mo is still a lot when there are other options. Statins are basically the only meds for cholesterol with any evidence of health outcomes currently and there are several statins on those plans.

@MenagerieMama: @ashleyt: @regberadaisy: @lemondrop: got some more info. He was having trouble with statins - they were giving him leg cramps in the middle of the night. He called the office and spoke to the nurse who NOW tells him that they have a prescription plan that he can use. The meds will be $20 out of pocket each month and the first month is free. Nice of them to mention that when it was prescribed to him!!

Mine was on a statin for a while until he got his diabetes under control (maybe 4 months). I have no idea about the costs, but we had killer insurance at the time, so it wasn't much.

Have you checked Costco? My dad had some very pricey meds with very minimal prescription coverage for a hip replacement, and Costco's prices were a life saver. They don't even have Costco membership and just had it shipped to their house.

Lipitor has a generic option but Crestor does not. As far as I know at least. DH is on Crestor and he needs to find out if it's ok to go on Generic Lipitor.

If it's a statin, Lipitor (atorvastatin) is now generic and on the $4 plan at Meijer.

There are plenty of options on $4 plans at places like target and Walmart. Is it a statin? Talk to his doc - they should definitely be able to work with him. Don't pay that much!

Do you or your SO take a cholesterol medicine? Would you mind sharing what you/your SO take and if it is reasonably priced? My husband just took his new prescription to the pharmacy. They told him it was going to be $275 (and we have prescription insurance). So, he left it there and is calling to see if there is anything else they will prescribe him... Ugh
