I came up with a list of about 30 names because my husband didn't have the patience to look through an entire book of names. He immediately picked 1 favorite with 2 others that he also liked. In the end, he kept calling her the 1 favorite name and it kind of stuck!

We took a short list (3-5 names for each gender) to the hospital with us the first time, when we were team green. Second time when we knew it was a girl, we took a list of 4 names to the hospital. Both were named the next day.

@yoursilverlining: I have a feeling that's what we'll do, too. Narrow it down to 2 or 3 top names, and then decide what he/she looks like once born. I've spoken to a lot of parents who did the same thing!

@pastemoo: that's exactly what I told my husband. I was like "look, its not like we are naming this child something totally off the wall! Regardless of what we pick, it will be okay!

@yoursilverlining: I have heard so many people say they just knew when they saw their little one - i think that's amazing!

@coacheswife123: :) Even if you don't like the name in the end, just keep on fighting.... it helps me with his name now like "at least we didn't name him Dante's Peak or D'artagnan" I'm becoming at peace with the name Gabriel (that I initially hated) because my LO is my son, and I love him. AND I didn't just give in immediately.

Plus... maybe I get to choose the next one (right? right?).

@yoursilverlining: It's cool that you could tell when you saw her!

We didn't pick out a name until LO was born; which turned out to be a good thing as we had narrowed it down to 2 names, but LO definitely just did NOT look like either name. Neither name fit her, or felt right to call her once she was here...so for the first few days she was nameless until we found the one that really fits her. So don't worry too much, you never know - LO might just "be" one name or the other once you see him/her. :)

It was a really painful and unfun experience. In the end, I agreed to the name that he liked since high school (before we met). I don't like the name a lot, but it's OK. I'm getting used to it.

Name choosing felt like a constant fight. I mean, I know DH and I will always argue about politics but the name thing--it was an argument that HURT and it lasted the whole pregnancy. About 38 weeks I said I would most likely agree to Gabriel, and now we have an adorable 13 week old.

I do not look forward to naming any future kids.

I couldn't agree with you more! I thought that choosing a name was going to be a wonderful and easy process, and it's turning out to be much harder than I expected. We are Team Green and it is making the "task" that much harder. There are a number of names that I like, but none that I am "in love with" the way I was expecting to be. That, and I am also an extremely indecisive person.

Another rpoblem is that my husband seems to be set on a specific boy's name, and I am trying to get on board with it. The whole process is just more frustrating than I thought it would be!

Good luck with your choices!

We were team green with both pregnancies so we didn't get the chance to "narrow it down" to one gender. For our first, we had decided on the girl's name but I thought were still undecided on boy (we had narrowed it down to two); however in video taken during my induction DH said we were looking forward to finding out if baby was either Evelyn or Thomas so apparently he had made the final decision on boy but didn't tell me (which was fine I liked either boy name about the same). Turns out Evelyn was the winner, although both DH and I thought we were going to have a boy.

This time around I have a front runner for girl and DH is supposed to be coming up with boy names but is dragging his feet. I keep trying to get him to just use one of the two from last time but he can't decide. We are split this time with me thinking it is a girl and him thinking it is a boy so we'll find out in about 4weeks.

Don't stress too much, I've had two family members who selected their baby's name after the A/S only to change their minds upon delivery.

@sorrycharlie: haha it has definitely been argument provoking for us and that, in turn, would upset me and we were both frustrated - disaster!

I'm hoping after our scan we get some clarity! Or at least feel a little less stressed!

We had to stop discussing until we knew she was a she. It was too miserable and argument-provoking.

Once we knew it was a girl, we narrowed down to about 3 and it took us a week to pick one.

We are having a really hard time with it! I'm 26 weeks and we still don't even have narrowed down lists. We are team green and most of the time I'm totally happy with that decision but sometimes I think it would be SO much easier if we could at least cut the name options in half by knowing if we are having a boy or a girl.

I think we started taking it more seriously when we found out the gender.
Many parents don't make a final decision till baby is here!

I think when one of you finds the right one you'll both know. :)

It actually ended up being a lot easier for us than I thought. We agreed to name our LO after a deceased family member, which is part of Jewish tradition. So we made a list of our deceased grandparents and great grandparents, and I happen to love all old people names, so DH picked his favorite and I agreed! I know it's not going to be so easy next time because DH doesn't love all old people names and the rest of the names on the list are too old for him.

I haven't had to yet but I know it's going to be a huuuuuge struggle! I can't even name pets without agonizing over it for weeks. Thank goodness my SO got his "I'm going to name my son after me" thing out of the way with his first wife, because it just personally doesn't work for me. Way too confusing, especially since there's no way to shorten it in his case!

I have a few boy names picked out, but for me the girl names are hard. Everything I like is either too popular (Ella) or I can think of horrible nicknames for them (Aria).

We were set on a boy's name and very undecided on a girl's name, of course A/S showed a little girl! We went back and forth for weeks and weeks, and ended up settling on our (well my) first pick since we couldn't imagine her named anything else. We butt heads a lot because he's very traditional and I'm a little more unique, but it worked out in the end!

It will come to you, no need to stress you still have 20 weeks to decide on a name! :)

Did anyone else think picking baby names sucked? We are having such a hard time deciding. Twice, now, we have had our names picked out and then one of us decided later that we aren't sure. Most recently, my husband broke the news that he wasn't sure about our boy or our girl name! Blah!

It threw me into a tailspin of anxiety and left me wondering if we will ever agree! Our A/S is in 9 days. I'm giving up thinking about it until then and that way we can narrow the field to boy or girl.

Anyone else feel that choosing a name was less-than-fun? I want it to be a happy/fun experience but it is starting to feel like a chore!
