@Mrs. Jacks: Interesting read!
@leialou: Thank you!
@torchwood: Yes, being pregnant and trying breastfeeding are both really appealing aspects for me as well. :happy:

After our last loss, we got genetic testing done and while we were waiting for results we discussed our options a lot. Turns out we have no genetic issues that could be causing our problems, but we wound up pretty much settling on embryo adoption as our backup. Like @Leialou said, I wanted to be pregnant and hopefully breastfeed, and I wouldn't really like the idea of a baby that was genetically one of ours but not the other's. It was also pretty reasonable cost-wise, much cheaper than IVF or traditional adoption.

For me it will be six months from application to transfer. I can't remember if I addressed that or not.

@Mrs. Jacks: If you have the link for the Scientific America article, I'd love to read it! How exciting that you're going through the adoption process again!

@leialou: Yes, if you could link to the blog I'd like to read it. Maybe you address this in your blog, but how long do you anticipate the wait being? My clinic told me that the wait would likely be 6 months to a year...this actually seems really quick.

I definitely know what you mean about the "not good enough part." I'm feeling this way right now :bummed: DH and I were talking about that last night...

Thanks for your quick responses ladies! I :heart: HB!

@Leialou: you know I adore you and am so excited for you! I hope you had seen the Scientific American article I referenced above showing DNA exchange between embryo and mama ( I think I've shared it before), because I think it would warm your heart :)

I'm in a similar situation. My husband and I had to choose between a sperm donor, traditional adoption, and embryo adoption. My DH has a chromosome issue that causes tons of miscarriages and just makes pregnancy almost impossible for us. We did IVF with our own embryos and had two failures and one loss.

We ended up crossing sperm donor off the list early on. We both felt that if the baby wasn't going to be genetically tied to one of us that it shouldn't be tied to the other. I think my husband would have felt like he wasn't good enough if we went that route, if that makes sense.

We wound up choosing embryo adoption because I really want to experience pregnancy and have a chance at breastfeeding. It was also a more affordable choice than traditional adoption or IVF with PGD. We are using a clinic that looks at it like any other adoption so we did a home study and will have an open relationship with our donors. There are clinics that treat it as a strict donation and everything is anonymous. We are doing an FET with our donor embryos next month.

I wrote a guest blog series about my experience and decision so far. I can link it for you if you'd like.

@winter_wonder: you need to talk to @Leialou. She's doing embryo adoption.

In our family, we decided that if we got to the point of IVF, we'd opt for newborn infant adoption, which we've done once (though not for infertility issues) and are doing again now (which we weren't planning, but it's safe to say that at my age, infertility issues would likely be a factor).

However, whichever of the options that you are considering you choose, pregnant mom and baby exchange some DNA, so even if you don't share a full DNA connection, just the act if growing them in your body gives a small biological connection. There's a great Scientific American article on the topic.

Very exciting that you are moving forward in your journey. I'm certain you will find the right answer for your family!

@winter_wonder: I don't have any advice on this since I was able to use my own eggs for IVF but I hope that @Leialou: chimes in since she and her DH are in the process of embryo adoption. She is active on the IF Check In threads or you could send her a wall message too!

To make a long story short, DH and I are considering an egg donor vs. embryo adoption as our next step in our infertility struggle. Basically, my eggs are of really poor quality and my doctor thinks there may be a chromosomal issue on my end. We've decided we're not going to try another round of IVF with my eggs.

In addition, if we go with an egg donor we'll have to decide if we go with a fresh cycle or if we purchase a select number of eggs from an individual. I'm not sure we'll be able to afford a fresh cycle....based on preliminary info it looks like it could be $36,000+

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? What advice do you have? Are there options we're not considering?

Please share your perspective with me!
