@iheartleopardprint: My daughter had bilateral choroid plexus cysts at her 20 week scan. My midwife said that they are very common and even 10 years ago wouldn't have been such a concern because regular ultrasounds weren't strong enough to pick them up on a scan. We had two follow-up Level II ultrasounds with a MFM. One had resolved by 22 weeks and the other resolved at 26 weeks. H is a healthy and happy two-year-old today.

DD had one at my 18 week scan. And like you, I did the NT scan and my odds were low for abnormalities. They also looked at her legs, kidneys, heart, etc and found no other markers. So they said they weren't concerned and it should resolve itself before 28 weeks. That the cyst is common part of a developing baby. At my 20 week scan, the cyst was gone!

We had one at the 20 week scan and my doctor was the same as yours - almost annoyed that it was in the report because it was so tiny and the rest was perfect. We did not rescan but did take materniti21 for peace of mind and that came back with great results. DD is a happy, smiley, totally normal 4 month old.

DS1 had one at the anatomy scan and we were given the option to do further ultrasounds a few weeks later but declined. In the end I felt like my anxiety would be worse with further testing. He is a happy and healthy 2 1/2 year old now!

But yeah, when we got the call about it we were driving and DH had to pull over on the highway so I could puke just from the panic and fear. So that's to say worry is normal but it's so very likely it's nothing :)

Not much to add other than agreement with other posters. DD had one at her 20 week scan, we were referred to MFM and the perinatologist could find no evidence just one week later. I worried for the same reasons as you, but you shouldn't! I'm still kind of mad the OB I saw for my 20 week appointment (not my usual OB) made us worry for no reason.

DS2 had one at the anatomy scan. I had an us just 2 weeks before and it never showed and never showed on any follow ups either. The midwives said not to be worried because bloodwork was fine. I went to MFM for all my later scans for a totally unrelated reason and they basically dismissed my concern about the CPC.

DS 2 had two of these cysts at our anatomy scan, when we went for follow up scans they disappeared. We also didn't have other markets.

A good friend is an MFM and said the US technology is so good now these often show up early then disappear, and that without other markets these really shouldn't be pointed out at all, but still is, for now.

It's scary to hear but it sounds like you will be fine! It will probably be gone in 4 weeks.

They are a normal part of the ventricle development. We had one, did not rescan, and our DD is perfectly healthy.

Yes, DS had 2 of them. They resolved a few weeks later, but my MFM group had me do genetic testing and genetic counseling because of it. He also had something unrelated called mega cisterna magna that turned out to be nothing. I really feel like it was way too much information and some doctors go overboard with these tests a bit to cover themselves legally. I'll bet your LO is fine

DD had one. They found it at my anatomy scan. I had a follow up at 24 weeks and it was gone. My OB didn't even mention it to me! I wouldn't have known if the tech hadn't slipped up and said something at my 24 week scan. She asked if we were there for a follow up on the cyst and DH and I were like "what cyst?!" I was irritated with my OB at the time, but she did save me a months worth of worry.

@iheartleopardprint: I started a thread about the same concern I had...apparently, many OBs won't even tell you about it because it's such a non-issue without other markers. But I totally understand the worry! My son's cleared up by 28 weeks and he is a typical 6 month old.

Thankyou! That makes me feel better.

I have an appointment with my midwife and a few weeks, so I am going to talk to her about it then. Just in case this particular OB is off point at all with not rescanning or being concerned.

I had one with both DDs. We were given a subsequent scan at my OB's office with the first pregnancy and referred to a maternal fetal medicine specialist with the second. (We moved in between babies to a different part of the state so I had different OBs with different philosophies for my pregnancies)

Both girls' cysts resolved well before birth and they are healthy happy babies at 3.5 years and 2 months old respectively.

Yesterday, our OB told us there was a 3mm x 3mm X 1mm choroid plexus cyst that had shown on the 20 week scan.

She didn't seem concerned in the slightest, even seemed a little annoyed it had been put in the report. She said that it was very common, and it is something that is a non issue. So much so they don't even follow it up or rescan, as 99.99% resolve on their own and is just a part of development.

We were obviously concerned, and she said it was an isolated cyst and with no other markers or issues it means nothing. My blood work for trisomy 18 and 21 were both greater that 1 in 19,000.

So, stupidly, I googled it when we got home. Trisomy 18 popped up, which made me So anxious! The heart and brain otherwise looked normal, as did the feet. One hand was outstretched, the other was in a fist behind its head. She was determined to get an image of it outstretched, and got one not outstretched but not clenched if that makes sense?

On a side note, DD had a dilated kidney at her 20 week scan which is a soft marker for Downs. By 30 weeks or so it had resolved itself. Logically I know this is also most likely 'one of those things', but I still feel panicked.

Those that had this come up, how did it go for you? Do I listen to my OB and trust it will be ok or do I try and push for a rescan?

As a positive, I managed to stay team green! It was so hard!!!
