When he lived at home he would get a special meal and a cake but he never really had parties or went out for his birthday. His friends always had family events to go to and once his brothers had their own families, they'd be busy celebrating Christmas with their in-laws. Here, though, he gets sad because he loves birthdays and it's pretty much impossible to have a big celebration for him on or close to his actual birthday -- nobody is ever around and those who are, are still busy with family stuff. The lead-up to the holidays is too hectic to put together a good party, and people want time to recuperate afterward so the likelihood of getting people on board for yet another party is slim until sometime in January. We don't even have particularly difficult friends, this is just the reality of a holiday birthday.</p> <p>Our LO is due 12/21 and I'm hoping he or she comes early or late.
