I was due Christmas Eve last year (delivered 12/21) and it was so special to bring her home with all the lights glowing and decorations up (I know sounds super corny). I loved it!

My LO was born 12/4. I was glad I'd decorated the day after Thanksgiving... I loved sitting with my LO by the fire with the Christmas tree nearby... was so cozy and nice. I found my LO napped enough that I had time to get things done while still on maternity leave.

I vote Yes too! Pictures will look so sweet and it will make that time of year so much more festive. If you get a chance before hand I would make sure that you have all the necessary things to put it away-- a bin for ornaments, a place for Christmas lights, a box for misc. decorations and tissue paper or something to wrap delicate things in plus a storage bag for your tree. It will make it so much easier when the time comes.

I voted yes. It's such a special year of firsts that pass by so quickly. Baby's don't keep and grow so fast. Don't worry about cleaning up. I've seen homes with Christmas trees and lights still up at Valentine's Day. You just do what is easy for you.

Glad to hear you're going to decorate! I think you'll love being able to take pictures of your newborn and your new little family under the Christmas tree! And hey, if the decorations don't get down until February, so be it! :-)

Okay, it looks like a pretty resounding "go for it" so I probably will :) I already knitted stockings for all of us (though I can't totally finish LO's until we know the name...the one downside of being team green so far) so those are easy to hang. Unfortunately, the tree I want to get is $$$ and we've been spending money like water to prep for baby's arrival, but it's not going to get any cheaper and once we have it, we'll use it for years and years. I think the stockings and the tree with some simple ornaments is probably enough for the time being. DH will of course help with setup and takedown of stuff, and my parents are coming to visit in late January so they could also help if necessary. Yay, I'm excited to finally be doing this!

Yes, I was much more in the Christmas spirit with a baby on the way! We went on the lighter side with decorations, and my husband did most of it, I unwrapped and handed him ornaments while sitting on the couch.

He also ended up cleaning up the decorations too- after my water broke (January 7th) while we were waiting for contractions to kick in. I'd been fine leaving it for my MIL to put away when she arrived, but he was super nesty and just had to get it done before we left.

Totally! It makes the house so much cheerier, and it would be so great to bring a newborn home to all that happiness.

Not only that, I would use the baby as an excuse to enjoy the decor a few extra weeks and get around to putting it away some time around Valentines Day ;)

Yes!! I was 35 weeks pregnant with twins at Christmas last year and as miserable and couch-ridden as I was, not having Christmas decorations up would have made it 100x worse. If I was going to be stuck on my couch for 95% of the time (minus bathroom trips), I wanted to at least be in festive surroundings.

definitely yes! but not too much, just enough for some festive pictures. I think those will be priceless, holding baby in front of the tree, etc. and this year you can do whatever decorations you want - next year you may have a mobile baby who wants to destroy everything and be limited then too.

just be prepared to have it up for a long time if you have a fussy baby and no one has a free hand! but most newborns sleep a lot so you could hold LO and direct DH in how to clean up

Decorating really boosts my mood around the holidays! We had a Dec. 21 baby and I hardly remember anything that happened after that, so put everything up and enjoy it BEFORE you go into labor :D

Yes! But I also love decorating, so I'm biased. ;) M was born last Dec 11 so we had the tree and everything up by that point. It was fun to get pics of us in front of the tree and her with her stocking.

Since I've been an adult, I've never really decorated for the holidays. My hubby isn't into decorating, either. However, now that we've got our own house, I really have a craving to put up a Christmas tree and some other decorations. I planned to buy a really nice fake tree to decorate last year but didn't get around to it and PROMISED myself I'd do it this year. But...our first baby is due December 21. This simultaneously makes me want to decorate more (cute newborn pictures with stockings and presents!) and less (having to take everything down and put it away at a couple weeks postpartum!). Hubby will go along with whatever I want. So, if you were me, would you still decorate, knowing the cleanup would be during those first crazy weeks with a newborn?
