You can use things not bought from the baby registry. And, if your sister is breastfeeding, the thing I wish I had invested in, early on, was some good nursing tanks. I found that when we saw extended family at the holidays, my kids got boatloads of these things...that effect may be amplified with a brand new baby.</p> <p>I like the idea of something personalized (stroller blanket, feeding spoons with the baby's name engraved, etc. If you go the book route, there are some very fun personalize books you can get - recordable ones or those where you insert your own photos. We have a few that came from Hallmark and my kids really enjoy them. I know that's not fun though. One thing you could consider is a photo package from a pro photographer. We got that for our niece when she was born and then SIL did the same for us when LO was born.
