@foodiebee: I so wish my ILs would go for an experience together rather than gifts. I would much prefer it! The vtech sit to stand walker was a big hit with both of my boys. Our older one got it for his first Christmas.

@foodiebee: The electric shaver is totally not silly! DH needed a new beard trimmer last year so that's what I pointed his mom to for a gift and it was well received.

As for 20s/early 30s ladies, I've given One Line a Day style journals that have been loved by friends and my SIL.
https://www.amazon.com/Celestial-One-Line-Day-Cheng/dp/1452164606
They have TONS of design options to fit basically anyone's style and they're inexpensive so if you want you can supplement it with a little piece of jewlery or a nail polish without breaking the bank.

ETA: These Keel's Simple Diary journals are also great gifts and come in a rainbow of colors (and are inexpensive as well).
https://www.amazon.com/Keels-Simple-Diary-Light-Blue/dp/3836512270/ref=pd_cp_14_3/141-0555288-1019832?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=3836512270&pd_rd_r=4b7781bd-ef82-47e2-b7d3-21ea7977844d&pd_rd_w=YCE0G&pd_rd_wg=M7yUM&pf_rd_p=0e5324e1-c848-4872-bbd5-5be6baedf80e&pf_rd_r=Q1RPAG7222C1808RJZTB&psc=1&refRID=Q1RPAG7222C1808RJZTB

A good sale at Chapters today means I have spent a tonne of money this morning and done almost all of my shopping!

B (5) is getting a Beyblade stadium and some Beyblades, this weird dragon thing he wanted (https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/toys/untamed-legends-dragon-vulcan/771171139560-item.html?ikwid=dragon&ikwsec=Home&ikwidx=8), the Osmo hot wheels game, and a tabletop air hockey table. W (3) is getting the same dragon, a Playmobil space set, the Osmo Little Genius kit, and a hot wheels stow and go play set.

I may have also bought myself a gravity blanket. I’ve wanted one for like a year and couldn’t turn down 35% off!

DS (6 mo. by Christmas): I was thinking some sort of activity center. Any suggestions on ones your kids liked? Suggestions in general for this age or something he'd grow into and love?

DH: Thinking a nice electric shaver. Is this a silly gift?

My mom: Help! Not a single idea. She likes gardening, cooking, and reading.

Any general suggestions for sisters in their late 20s/early 30s? I find it so challenging to gift them things and most of the time end up at Anthropologie or something...

A friend of mine's family doesn't give gifts and instead takes a family trip each year (outside of vacay) for the holiday weekend to a cabin (picture fireplace, hot cocoa, cooking, board games, movies) and I love this idea and wish so much that my fam would get on board with it.

@Hypatia: Craft supplies are often good stocking stuffers if your kids are into that...glitter glue, washi tape, twist up markers or crayons, pipe cleaners, new glue stick, googly eyes, etc. My kids go through craft supplies like crazy and get excited for new supplies.

@Jennibenni: @bhbee: Thank you! Bought it! Bonus points that it will go really well with our kitchen, where we have an antique (functioning!) blue freestanding stove from the 1910s.

I figure assembly can be a project for over Thanksgiving, when my parents are around to help if needed. Though procrastinating til Christmas Eve might be a good way to guarantee I go into labor then, so LO can wake up Christmas morning to a million parts strewn across the kitchen 😂

@periwinklebee: omg do not assemble it pregnant. It has like 275 parts! It isn’t so much hard to do as endless. Santa needed a few drinks at my house to motivate since I didn’t start until after bedtime Christmas Eve :silly: (I think dh just did the drinking part because I’m the handier one ... )

That said it’s worth it (assuming you have help if 9m pregnant!) because the details are great and it holds up to lots of play.

@MountainBaby: @bhbee: Thank you!!!! Also good to know on hard to assemble, I'm just picturing myself doing this while literally nine months pregnant 😂

@bhbee: I'm not sure how new it is, but my parents got LO this for Christmas last year and it seems pretty novel: https://www.amazon.com/Fat-Brain-Toys-Kids-Spinagain/dp/B016F5QJQW/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=fat+brain+spinning+rings&qid=1572465114&sr=8-4 He wasn't old enough for it initially but got much more into it around maybe the 17 month mark. Most of the other things DS loves are pretty basic things that I imagine you might ]have - a little toy wagon and toy lawnmower to push and pull around, a dump truck that he can also fill up with things and push around, cardboard blocks, and a couple of chunky puzzles (my parents got him this one for his birthday, which happens to be a lightening deal now - and he loves it - https://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Animals-Wooden-Puzzle/dp/B000FS70QE/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=melissa+doug+animal+puzzle&qid=1572465365&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=8-7 )

@periwinklebee: We got this doll for my daughter and there are a couple ethnicities available. Way cheaper than bitty baby, but about the same size so they can share clothes if you come across any clothes you like. https://www.amazon.com/JC-Toys-16-inch-Washable-Accessories/dp/B00N6CD9V6

@periwinklebee: since you are a little ahead of me are there any cool new 1yo toys I need to put on our list?? Third kid gifts are impossible and several people want ideas from me ...

We have a kidkraft kitchen that’s been around since the oldest was the same age as your son - we have the retro model and it’s not too huge - we had it in our city apartment. Definitely a good investment - she liked emptying it (fair warning!) around 2 and did more pretend play as she got older.

For dolls - we have a Corolle Calin which I love but there isn’t a huge selection of ethnicities - it’s hard to beat bitty baby for that. My kids loved the diaper bag and such from Melissa and Doug, and Target also has cute cheaper accessories.

Almost 4 y/o: science experiment kits (tjmaxx had a 4 set for $7!), And magnatiles and a remote control car I got him last year but didn't let him unwrap bc he got too many other things 😂 I'm really trying to not buy much these early years when he doesn't care. He has never once asked for anything but a toy tractor at the fair when he was 2.5

Almost 1 y/o: ummm, nothing? Wrapped boxes?

DH: Bogs boots.... and.... Idk

I admittedly go a little nuts at Christmas, but in my defense, he rarely gets anything unless it’s his bday or Christmas. 🤷🏼‍♀️ here is my list for DS who will be newly 4
1. Wobbelboard
2. Hape crane (Santa)
3. Globe
4. Wood unit blocks
5. 3-5 usborne books or from the “ultimate book of” series
6. Maybeeeee a micro maxi scooter

@agold: I love them. I’d say that realistically they are not out most played with toy but their are beautiful and very open ended and make great addition to blocks/other toys. We make tunnels for trains, stack them in interesting ways, etc. I get them for my babies who are too young to care what they get because I’m not sure that out of the box they are the most exciting but they do make a nice addition to a toy collection overall.
I just got the large nesting boxes for my one year old and they are great, have been garages, houses, and just used for stacking. The nesting bowls are nice too. I love the flower stacker. I think I will go with one of the gnome house shaped ones or maybe the waves.

We don’t do gifts for each other or our parents. My LO is only 20 mos so she won’t know what’s going on but I think I’m going to get her a mini scooter just because I want to. Also eyeing a toy kitchen. We live in a small space so thinking about the Hape one.
