gift certificate for a photoshoot? She might want to do newborn pictures or family pictures, maybe you can help contribute to that?

I didnt see that @marionberry: already suggested that earlier :)

@marionberry: I definitely could...I just worry it would be such a small portion of what the cost will be as they are in downtown chicago and as I mentioned have pretty expensive taste...

Her and I may make a trip to Florida together in Feb...so I could also put together a "care package" for that trip...

Could you give her money toward a photo shoot of her lo? Perhaps one like 3 or 6 months which is likely cheaper than a newborn shoot?

@cmomma17: Ohhh I am going on pinhole press right now!! this sounds very promising! I'll definitely be giving her a book (already have it) and some 9mos clothing is a good idea. Since i have a LO 3 mos older than hers will be I give her all of our stuff hand me down style - but a nice outfit or two is a good idea!

@Beebug: So thats the only problem with my sister is she's super picky about house stuff. I'd be worried about picking something like that out for them!

@Smurfette: She made out like crazy at her shower...she has 2 boxes of NB, 3 economy boxes of size 1 and already 1 box of size 2. As for wipes - we got her jumbo packs of pampers and huggies - so she has a good start until she finds the ones she wants.

@TemperanceBrennan: I tried looking at Tiffany and David Yurman but the stuff was bonkers expensive. Her fiance and her are super materialistic so this would be great if I could find the right thing. I did find a silver Michael Aram rattle which has real potential for her "birth" gift. They gave me a burberry dress (so cute but also so impractical) when they came to meet my LO - I wish I could do the same but it would feel super unthoughtful to get them the same thing basically.

@Cara M. 17: This is basically my back up plan - hit them with "down the road" stuff. Its super practical which is definitely my thing - I just feel like its a little "un fun" for Christmas!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Thats a great idea. Her fiance got our LO (his god daughter) a beautiful piggy bank for her christening...so I know he thinks its a nice gift idea!

What about starting the college fund?

Or a personalized piggy bank and contribute the first piece of currency? You could even write a sweet message for the LO around the edges of the bill.

@Mrs D: My LO is due 11/23 and my family is doing the same - gifts for kids only. I would be very excited to get 12 month clothes (we have so many from newborn thru 9 months), feeding gear for once we start solids or even for when she is old enough for finger foods (baby Bjorn bib, snack cups, tiny diner, etc.). Do they need extras of anything? Burp cloths, extra set of sheets, diaper pail refills, diaper cream, etc? You can never have too much of that stuff. Or what about toys for 3-6 months?

I would think a fancy keepsake would be good in this situation. Sounds like she has every practical thing she needs and has enough resources to survive after baby.

Something she could keep forever and pass down to her kids.

@Mrs D: Bookshelf and books? Clothes in the 6-12 month range? When my LO reached the 9 months size (at 6 months old) we had really run out of gifted clothes and had to go out and buy a lot of things.
What about a gift certificate for newborn/baby photography? Or their first family photos?
OR what about going on pinhole press and making one of those photo books for baby with pictures of mommy, daddy, grandparents, etc? I think it's called the name book?

@blackbird: seriously...thats my other issue...she could be still preggo!!!

@looch: ya technically (to follow the rules) I am supposed to only be shopping for the LO - however I had thought of stretching it to the "family" since 1) the LO may not be here and 2) I really cant think of anything for the baby!

@blackbird: Ya - I thought about something like that but that basically breaks the "focus on the baby" rule they made. My sisters are kind of crazy about their "rules" too - so I am terrified of breaking one the first year.

So...my sister is due on Christmas Eve. We (my two sisters and I) decided now that we all have LO's we were going to stop doing any gifts for each other and rather focus on the LO's.

Heres my issue - my sister has literally received SO much stuff I cannot think of anything she could need for the first 6 mos on LO's life. Even the like 4-6 month stuff she put on her registry she received. I am trying to think of something to get her that is fun and practical but I am at a total loss. I have thought of going more "family gift" route but I cant do a cleaning lady (they have one) and I have thought of doing a meal delivery but my sister is so picky about food!

Any ideas? I'm thinking somewhere in the $75-100 price range.
