@bubblegum: Love yours!

Every year we walk through the botanical gardens light display with manhattans (well, none for DS ;) ), and go take pictures with Santa. This year we added the Polar Express ride and a breakfast with Santa with all four grandparents (funded by the out-of-town set, haha). Otherwise, we go get and decorate a real tree, play Christmas music every morning and evening at home, make homemade cookies and bailey's to hand out, and adopt a family for whom to buy toys! I hope to add more traditions as DS grows up!

DH and I just talked about this! It’s LOs 1st Christmas and I want to start the traditions even though he doesn’t really get it.

We read to LO each night so we will definitely read the Christmas Story from the Bible, baking and maybe a gingerbread house! I’d like to play christmas music the entire month too!!!! We decorated the tree together and we will open presents together (as a nuclear family) Christmas morning. I am sure some new things will come!

This feels like the first year lo1 really “gets” Hanukkah (she’s 3.5) or is able to remember things long-term and it’s so exciting! We’re focusing on the traditional stuff— candles and prayers each night, a menorah, latkes on the first night, a few songs, gifts— so nothing too out there (or creative haha) but it’s exciting to see how into it she’s getting!

DH and I are starting our Christmas traditions from scratch and this is the first year we are staying home and not traveling for Christmas, so we don't have a whole lot yet, but we implemented an Advent calendar this year. We got Ann Voskamp's The Greatest Gift and while our 18 month old is a little too young for it, our 3 year is into it. We will likely keep that as a tradition going forward. Right now we're giving them a small gummy candy afterwards, but eventually I imagine we'll also include their own chocolate calendars.

Someone posted about making a birthday cake for Jesus with their kids and I loved that idea, so I think we'll do that as an activity on Christmas Day to have as dessert after dinner. We are planning on dinner being something the kids can help me make, like a salad and pizza or a ravioli lasagna they can help me layer ingredients on. The hope is that the tradition turns into us all cooking dinner together.

I don't know that we'll do this on Christmas Day, but I think we'll take the boys with us to drop off Christmas goodies to our neighbors so they can start learning the joy of giving.

I love Christmas! This year is going to be especially fun because it’s our LO’s first. Our traditions include:
- ‘Santa day’ in a neighbouring town, the whole town becomes festive and there’s an evening parade with fireworks!
- writing Santa a letter and giving it to him at our local parade/kid party.
- we cut down our own Christmas tree from our property.
- Christmas movies, the musts are Charlie Brown, A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Miracle on 34th Street... plus any other ones we can. 😊
- We get overpriced hot chocolate and look at the Christmas lights.
- Day (or more because of baby) of Christmas baking.
- Hiding the Christmas pickle in the tree.
- Christmas Eve box + reading the night before Christmas.
- Christmas Eve mass.
- Polish Christmas Eve with inlaws.
- Christmas evening with my extended family (obscene amount of traditional food and presents).
- Boxing Day with my parents.
- We’ll be doing cookies and hot chocolate for Santa this year.

We celebrate St Nicholas day on Dec 6th so the kids get their stocking filled by me then and again by my husband on Christmas morning. :)

I go shopping with my dad for my mom one night and then we do dinner. (one of my favorite traditions!)

Make cookies with the boys the weekend before

Watch any Christmas movie we can get our hands on.

Drive down the weekend before Christmas to spend time with DH's family.

Christmas eve mass and then dinner with my parents that always ends with sipping Baileys over ice. :)

Lazy Christmas morning with monkey bread and some sort of egg casserole for breakfast. Dinner at my Grandma's

Celebrate Christmas with my brothers and their family a few weeks later. We do the white elephant game instead of exchanging gifts and it's hilarious.

We have several traditions that kind of spread out over the course of the month of December, basically.
-going to see the Polar Express at the Antique Auto Museum (everyone wears pjs and they serve food and a conductor punches a golden ticket for each kid and then Santa comes and every kid gets a bell)
-breakfast with Santa at my parents' country club, then a big party at their house
-Christmas lunch/dinner with my ILs
-a visit to Christmas Candylane at HersheyPark to see the lights
-baking/decorating cookies
-Christmas Eve we go to church then drive to this house that has a huge lights display. Once we get home we lay out cookies and milk and carrots and spread "reindeer food" outside
-Christmas Day is opening presents, overnight baked nutella french toast, and then we lounge around in our pjs and watch Harry Potter movies

My family has a lot of christmas traditions but my favorites include:
My grandfather carves wooden ornaments for us grandkids (and now great grandkids) to paint and every year they are different. I have ornaments dating back to when I was 2
He also decorates cookie sheet size cookies with us, and the rule always was no one can tell you to put less sugar on your cookies (my grandma was actually kicked out of the kitchen when we were little to make sure this was enforced)
a new ornament (other then the hand painted one) each year I now do this for my husband and will be doing it for my daughter
new christmas pjs

Whiskey!! Okay Santa, I like your style! lol Awwww how sweet is that. Santa for sure needs coffee.

New PJ’s on Xmas eve (this was my family’s tradition growing up too)

This year we are starting a new tradition “the 1 2books of Christmas”: 12 days leading up to Xmas LO gets to upwrap a new book every day.

Make cookies on xmas eve (or day before, depending on schedules) and set out cookies, carrots and whiskey (thanks, DH) for Santa. LO determined last year we should set out the cookies/carrots next to the Kuerig so Santa can make himself a cup of coffee while he’s there too, so that’s a new tradition lol

11 days away from Christmas and I'm getting excited to get all our traditional Christmas outings going. What do you do to get ready for the holidays? What are your traditions or any traditions you want to start now?

We always watch Christmas movies, the clay animations are a must!!

We go the Christmas light shows in our city.

We watch the Polar Express every Christmas Eve (until the kids can request other wise)

And this year we are trying to start a new tradition of PJ cookie party! Fingers crossed we'll be able to add this to our list of traditions.

What do you and your family do?
