Mostly cause I have family in town once a year so I spend all my time with them. I actually didn't find the turnout too terrible. For the shower thrown by my sister, more of my high school friends actually came because they were in town. I also think people were just as generous... because all the gifts had to be bought before Christmas. Unless you have a lot of people who either 1) stay local for the holidays and don't travel anywhere, or 2) travel back to your hometown for the holidays from elsewhere. My shower was New Year's Eve and we did a lunch. None of my friends were in town so it was mainly just family that showed up but you can't really complain when it is being thrown for you.
