Like the other posters stated, I think you will likely get a smaller turnout but it'll be nice and intimate! I say go for it :)

Maybe get the invites out SUPER early before people commit to other obligations? I would say even before thanksgiving. And def do lunch or brunch. Most holiday things tend to be in the evening.

Very nice that she wants to throw if for you but I have to say I probably wouldn't go to a shower on the 23rd. Mostly cause I have family in town once a year so I spend all my time with them. I think that as long as you are ok with less people coming because of the date, then go for it.

That's so nice of your sister. If someone invited me on December 23rd, I would honestly be slightly annoyed and probably wouldn't go because I'm usually cleaning the house, cooking for the next day, and all that good stuff. If you don't mind a smaller turnout then you can take her up on her offer.

I think for sure you'll get a smaller turnout, but you'll probably get mostly family and that could be nice.

I had the same kind of showers, one before Christmas thrown by my sister and one right after thrown by my MIL. I actually didn't find the turnout too terrible. For the shower thrown by my sister, more of my high school friends actually came because they were in town. I also think people were just as generous... because all the gifts had to be bought before Christmas. It wasn't that bad :)

If it is really the only time you can do it, I guess you don't have a choice, but I do think that timing is really bad. Unless you have a lot of people who either 1) stay local for the holidays and don't travel anywhere, or 2) travel back to your hometown for the holidays from elsewhere. I would try to do it another time, but it's probably more important that your sister is there than a dozen other people right?

It may be a busy time for people, and you may not get a huge turn out but if that's the only date that works, then I say just go for it!

I feel like no matter when it is, someone won't be able to make it or will have a comment about the timing. My friend is due in January, and her mom threw her shower in October to avoid the holidays and snow, and people still commented on how early it was.

Similar situation when I was pregnant. My shower was New Year's Eve and we did a lunch. None of my friends were in town so it was mainly just family that showed up but you can't really complain when it is being thrown for you. I would have preferred to wait until mid-January but my sister would have been unable to attend.

Your sister sounds sweet! I don't think it is a great timing and you might have a lower turnout...will this be your only shower?

My sister really wants to throw me a baby shower, but the only time she can be here (she lives across the country) is during Christmas week.
She asked me about having the shower on December 23 (the only Sunday she'll be here for), but we're worried that no one will come since it's so close to Christmas and they'll be busy with other things. And, tired of shopping.

What do you think?
