We didn't change where we put it or what we put on it. It's just when it comes to the Christmas tree that I'm debating the best way to handle it. We put any breakable ornaments up high, but he really paid very little attention to the tree. It was never an issue. Part of me says that I'm not changing my Christmas traditions just because I have a toddler - I've always had a real tree, it's important to me, and he's 1.5, which is totally old enough to learn that he can't play with the tree.</p> <p>On the other hand...I also have a newborn. So how fast can I realistically move when I'm pumping or feeding his brother and he goes for the tree? And what happens when I need to leave the room for a diaper change - do I take him with me every single time? Because clearly I can't leave a toddler unattended in the same room as a Christmas tree. Keeps them from pulling ornaments off and snooping around the presents too. We got shatterproof ornaments, just in case, and we hung anything breakable up high where she couldn't reach.</p> <p>ETA: We didnt put any presents out until Christmas Eve. We get a real tree so I'm slightly concerned about her trying to get to the water but we're hoping she won't realize it's there if it's covered well with the skirt and we only water it at night or early am so she doesn't see. I'm hoping a lot of reinforcement that she can touch but must be gentle will work this year at 22 months. I'll keep breakable ornaments up high. I'm also going to put up a small artificial tree in her room with ornaments she can touch so I'm hoping I can redirect her to play there. Oops. Tree should have been secured. My SIL (his mom) told him not to touch but grabbed the tree and pulled. Luckily, my uncle was there to grab him before the tree came down on top of him. Smashed glass ornaments everywhere.
