I feel like we went the wrong direction last summer sending him to an allergist. My husband has awful allergies so they did the skin prick test on DS and he had no reactions at all--we were super shocked. His allergist did bloodwork and noticed he was missing some pneumonia titers which made him more prone to becoming ill, so we had to get an extra vax and I never heard back anything else. Ugh. It was almost a shock going to the immediate care clinic and not getting an antibiotic during the visit. Getting him tubes/adenoids out has been so good for him. I took him to an allergist and an ENT. The allergy tests were negative but the ENT said he had enlarged adenoids. He has been on Flonase for a month and for a while I really think it was helping. He wasn't snoring/heavy mouth breathing at night and was generally sleeping better. Then just this week he got the sore throat and congestion again but we have his follow up appointment tomorrow. Tubes or tonsils out could make a huge difference. Our ENT goes by numbers, if they're getting too many ear infections in a year, tubes will help. We got them for my youngest. His quality of life has improved a lot in a month. There are just so many things that can be going on, and, with the amount of meds and the frequency of the infections, I would want to know what other treatment options/solutions may be available. I do, actually, think that this is impacting his--and your!--quality of life as well. I wonder if the tonsils are driving it? Also what about OTC allergy meds? My kiddos booth do Claritin or Zyrtec and it makes a huge difference for them.</p> <p>ETA, we are in Texas too. Fortunately, I think he's only had maybe 1 or 2 since turning 2 and is now 4.5. However, since October he has had 5 sinus infections and been on a 10 day dose of antibiotics each time. Since this last one in late April/early May, I feel like he hasn't gotten much better and still wakes up with a swollen face and bad congestion.</p> <p>I hate to take him back into the doctor, but he crawls into bed with us most nights and listening to him sleep just sounds awful and I feel so bad for him. It doesn't seem to effect his quality of life during the day at all. Also, when I asked his ped how many sinus infections he had at his last appt (when she told me it was one every other month since October), I asked her if I should be concerned and she said it was something he would likely grow out of, like the ear infections.</p> <p>I can't decide if I should take him back in and press the issue more or just wait it out over the summer since he won't be in school and see what happens. </p>
