I am totally coming into this post after 3 months ... but I just talked with my friend today about IC (what @jedeve was talking about). She said it's triggered by stress, and mimics all symptoms. Hoping you found relief or an answer since the last posts!!

have you tried drinking baking soda? the few times I've had really bad ones, it's majorly helped. you can google to find the ratio, i can't remember sorry! but you basically dissolve it in water and chug it down at regular intervals.

I used to get them A LOT in my 20s and the Dr. said they could prescribe a month-long antibiotic since perhaps the one-week antibiotics weren't clearing all the bacteria fully and it could come back stronger and more resistant to treatments?
I started taking cranberry supplements twice a day at least for a few months and everytime after sex and it really cleared it up. But once you get UTIs you are more easily susceptible to them and it sucks. Just have to take a lot of precautions and up the cranberry juice and supplements when you feel it coming on!

But really UTI's are so painful--have you taken antibiotics for it?

Is your doctor doing a test each time she diagnoses you, or just based on symptoms? I have a bladder disorder that mimics chronic utis, but isn't bacterial. Its called interstitial cystitis. I was told it was a uti each time I went in to the doctor. You might want to insist they do a culture, not a dip stick test. And make sure you clean thoroughly before so you don't accidentally contaminate your sample. I hope you don't have it, but it could be good to get relief!

@PrincessBaby: same!

I get them more while breastfeeding and I think it's because I have to drink SO much water just to produce enough milk for baby and enough to keep me hydrated. It gets worse when I work out more and go tanning too. Ugh, I have some really embarassing stories from having UTI's :( I had one a month after DS was born until I stopped breastfeeding him. Once it was so bad, I lost all bladder control...while in target.

@PrincessBaby: I was actually supposed to see a specialist about there possibly being something wrong with my gall bladder right before i got pregnant. I was having all sorts of issues. I probably should make an Appointment .....I have had kidney infections from waiting too long to go to the doctor.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: OMG, I am so sorry that doesn't do it! It makes me hurt thinking about what I'd do if I still got them! I mean, the pills that make your pee orange help the pain, but that is so gross to deal with and have to come from the doctor each time, and you can't live on those. What does your doctor say?

@PrincessBaby: oh yes....I am very OCD about cleaning after intimacy because of my trouble with the UTIs. However, it doesn't seem to help. Not only do I always urinate, but I usually take a shower.
I drink tons of water and take cranberry pills regularly!
DH and I did have a sex fest last week. Maybe I am paying the consequences now. Yikes. :(

Agree with @PrincessBaby: about peeing every single time. I skip the cuddling and shoot up and go to the bathroom! Haha. Also I found that if I take a chewable vitamin C with like 1000% of the RDA in it, it helps. You end up peeing it all out but I read somewhere that bacteria has trouble surviving in an acidic environment. Could be total BS but couldn't hurt?

Yup! mine were sex-related too - started getting them shortly after we got married and they lasted for a long time. My mom referred me to a homeopath and I was skeptical, but I only did a week of the remedy and haven't had a UTI since (it was 1.5 years ago!!) I swear by homeopathy now. I love it.

The remedy I took was staphysagria but the remedy varies depending on person because homeopathy works differently than medication; it's not one medication fits all - it varies by person, symptoms etc...

Welllllll, to be totally honest, I got them a lot early on in DH and my relationship, and it was ALWAYS related to sex....I read that UTI's are called "honeymooners' syndrome" and every time I got one, it correlated to some huge Sex Fest we had (sorry-tmi!)....The main thing that worked for me was to MAKE SURE that I urinated after sex. Even if I felt like I didn't have to. My dr said that it is a pretty good way to ensure that any bacteria is flushed out of there after sex, as that's often what causes it. To this day, I urinate afterwards each and every time, and I haven't had another one since I did that!

They are easily the most miserable thing in the world and I hope you feel better!!

Anyone suffer from these?

Before getting pregnant I had 9 UTIs in a 12 month period. I didn't get a single one while I was pregnant, but have already had two since LO was born. I have tried everything to prevent them but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any advice?
