We are not religious and our DD attends a conservative Lutheran daycare. We have had no issues whatsoever. She is 3 and I sometimes forget that it is technically a religious school. One day I walked in and the bulletin board said "Jesus loves you" and I was like "oh yeah."

I talked to the director pretty openly about how we are not religious when we enrolled and she was fine with it. I do believe they say some quick prayers at meal times but DD has never said anything that leads me to think she is picking up a religious education. She's only there part-time though. I think they take great care of her and the rates are very reasonable ($135/week for full-time, $32/day part-time.)

This is a super cute book and it's written well - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/140032033X?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00. I'm really illustration picky and these are beautiful. It covers every major story from Genesis - Revelation.

Spotify has some children's worship song playlists which might help you out as well!

@BeachMama: Of course there are tons of kids' Bible songs, but these are ones I grew up with and maybe ones that your DD is learning, if you want to familiarize yourself with them. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n_0?fst=as%3Aoff&rh=n%3A163856011%2Ck%3Awee+sing+bible+songs&keywords=wee+sing+bible+songs&ie=UTF8&qid=1436542118&rnid=2941120011&ajr=2

@BeachMama: We recently got this one and it works well for when we follow up. The only thing I don't like is it doesn't show the actual verses for me to look up if I wanted more details but it works good for her.

@ROSEGOLD: The old daycare was 30 min from our house because it was close to my work. But I don't work there anymore. We looked at a few preschools in our area and liked this one. The teachers all seem really nice and caring and it's a smaller setting, so a little less chaotic than her last school.

@DANIELLEMYBELLE: I'm not concerned about the content they're teaching, or that they're focusing too much on the bible. It's more that I am completely unfamiliar with the stories and songs. I may just get a book of bible stories so I can follow along.

I went to a presby preschool and attended a semester of private school at a Baptist church when I was a kid.

I recall singing biblical churches and reading the bible, but once I went into the public school system, I forgot it all. I did inquire with my parents why we didn't go to church, and I can't recall their response, but apparently it satisfied me.

If it helps at all, we just moved her to a church preschool (we wanted the religious aspect). I grew up in the church and I still find myself pulling out a bible (or looking up on google) to get the full story of things she's learning about. Yes I know the premise of Jonah and the Whale but I still have to re-read to really know what its about. A lot of times we talk with her about how the bible lesson/story relates to her life.

We actually took our daughter out of a church preschool because it was TOO religious for our tastes. She would come home talking about bible stories more than the ABCs. We decided the time they spent studying the bible should have been spent working on academics and took her out.

My son went to a daycare affiliated with a Catholic school, there was no religious programming there whatsoever.

Now, he was going to attend the preschool, but our circumstances changed but from my discussions with the director, religious ed was on the cirriculum. That meant there would be religious books/strories, activities, etc. I was okay with that, even though we're not active, there was no time spent actually praying or preaching.

My daughter is only 20 months and she has gone to a church preschool for nearly a year. They don't do much overtly religious stuff at this age. The music teacher includes some Bible songs but the songs that she comes home singing are usually nursery rhymes. Once they move up to preschool, they do chapel once per month.

We are kind of on the fence religiously so it is not an issue for us. I grew up with all the songs and stories so they are familiar to me and I am glad LO is learning them. I'm not sure how I would feel in your position... Do you just wish you knew the context of what she is learning or do you have concerns about it? If it just the former I would just google. :) To be honest, unless you are reinforcing it at home, I think it is all going to blend into the magical realm of childhood for her and the stories will be the same as Jack and the beanstalk.

We've had an amazing experience with our church daycare. We know a couple families who sent their kids to the big fancy center in our community and switched them to our little church preschool and have been a lot happier. I don't know if yours is like ours, but the teachers are so sweet and the setting is very loving and homey. I feel like in our case, there is something about it being their "ministry" to love on these kids that makes it really special. If you are happy with everything else I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd start by getting a children's bible and reading it. They cover the major stories and not much else - that will at least give you an overview for when she talks about stories etc. I'd also go online and read the church creed/doctrine/we believe section (usually they put these online). They aren't likely to teach preschoolers anything too controversial, but it is useful to understand where the teachers are coming from.

How do you handle it if your LO attends a daycare or preschool at a church or temple but you're not religious?

Our daughter recently switched to a church based daycare/preschool because it is much closer to our house than her old school. Neither DH nor I are religious or know much about the bible. She's been coming home talking about some of the stories or singing songs she's learned in school. I don't have a problem with her learning bible stories but I feel kinda stupid for not knowing what she talking about.
