I've been craving cinnamon this pregnancy and had a decent amount already. I have a few tubes of cinnamon rolls to work through happily.

@loki: DOn't worry about it, I asked my doctor about it and she started laughing saying "someone has been Googling" and said unless the place looks completely sketchy you are fine. There is a SLIGHT risk of listeria if they don't clean their machines well.

@zarzar: I think it is fine in moderation.

Maybe this article has something to do with the recent fear of cinnamon?

Thanks, ladies. I'm going to download the Ovia app, it looks so straightforward and handy. I just remembered hearing common herbs and spices are sometimes avoided during pregnancy so I thought I'd check. Didn't mean to cause alarm with everyone else, it seems like the consensus is that cinnamon is OK.

@kiddosc: I'm having a rough first few weeks of pregnancy, so I'm a bit more on edge than the average excited pregnant woman.

If cinnamon were that unsafe, you would know it. If a teaspoon (at most) was enough to be hazardous to a fetus, you would know, and we wouldn't be eating it (pregnant or not).

Take Dr. Google with a grain of cinnamon, err, salt, or you're going to have a long 9 months :silly:

My naturopath encouraged me to eat cinnamon. I stay away from Dr Google. I love the ingredient lookup on my Ovia app if I'm not sure. Here is a snapshot.

Large amounts of cinnamon can start contractions. I would not worry about the amount you're putting on your oatmeal! And it probably means cinnamon essential oil...not the culinary kind. Very different.

Totally fine. :) Cinnamon is one of those things that you'd never use in the amount that it would take to cause problems.

Is it safe to have cinnamon while pregnant? I had some cinnamon and nutmeg in my oatmeal this morning, and Dr. Google has some mixed comments on its safety. It seems safe in amounts used in food as long as you aren't eating a ton of it, but I could use a little reassurance!
