@ rubies: thanks for the encouragement....naps today were a little easier but I think I will have to CIO soon...

@icebergmom: I've been nursing to sleep during the day too, then she starts crying as soon as I put her down. I feel like I'm feeding her too often, to get her to stop crying...

My LO only needed nap training. Around 7 or 8 months I couldn't let her nurse/nap on my lap anymore. I loved all the tv I was watching but I needed to get real work done around the house.

I tried CIO twice. The first week I went four days and quit because Se just cried the whole hour. Her voice was hoarse. It broke my heart.

The second time after three days it worked like a charm.

Other things too, I think help, such as noise machine and room darkening. While we trained we also read the same books and sang the same son prior to laying he down. And I'm still nursing to sleep too but she usually wakes up for the moment I'm laying her down. Before she used to arch her back and scream..z now she rolls over and closes her eyes.

If its not working the first time she migh just be sick or teething. You can always try again later, like we did.

Good luck. Hardest thing in the world. I would cry listening to her. :(

Oh and I did not go in so often. Once every 15-20 mins and only to check diapers.

Yeah, nap-training is very tough; it's harder than night-training. I did both at the same time to get it all out of the way. I found that LO's crying for nap-training was worse/harder and it was more difficult to deal with because, as you said, you're alone with no hubby to help get you through it.

It's not for everyone but it worked for me and while it's tough to hear LO cry, in the end, she learned to put herself to sleep. I encourage you!

My six-month old, who I'm breastfeeding-on-demand and just recently started on solids, used to be a terrific sleeper (usually nursing to sleep), and rarely cried for any reason. I didn't have her on a set sleep schedule as she seemed to naturally fall into one on her own. Then for three weeks, we were taking short trips visiting with family and friends, so of course her "schedule" became non-existent.

Starting this past weekend, we decided to try the Ferber method, which is going SLOWLY (first night, cried 1.5hrs, second, third, fourth nights, for an hour, then 35 min last night - during the night, she gets up twice to feed and has been falling back asleep without much problem). The biggest issue now, though, is that during the day, I cannot put her down at all without her panicking and screaming. In fact, she now cries at the drop of a hat and wants me to hold her all the time. I am not trying to nap train at the same time but now feel she is not getting enough sleep during the day, and have tried to let her CIO but she works herself into a frenzy.

Do I need to Ferberize her during the day as well? It's easier at night when my husband is there but during the day, I can't handle the constant crying...
