@pumpkinpie: I emailed the principle today about stopping by for a visit before she officially starts.

@TheReelDeal: does your daycare let you take your LO there to visit? Our daycare lets us visit as many times and for as long with our LO before they officially start. You'd be able to see how the caretakers interact with the babies and ask any questions.

No CIO at our daycare. I'm not even sure daycares are allowed to do that due to licensing issues. I can't imagine they would give licenses to daycares that intentionally left babies to cry.

Definitely not. In fact, at my daycare, they apparently still rock my daughter to sleep at 15 months, even though she's been capable of falling asleep by herself at home for 10 months now.

Umm no! Our center would never (even if requested by a parent since it would disturb the others.) my husband has picked dd up quite a few times at the start of nap time and never heard any crying!

When I worked in an infant room we would have never let a baby cry themselves to sleep. If we ever let a baby cry it was because our hands were full and we couldn't get there just yet...but that was never more than a minute or two. Most of the time I had at least one baby in my arms with two feet bouncing babies in bouncers. We had a 1::4 ratio.

Our center rocked the babies, used swings and bouncers, and whatever else it took to get them to sleep without CIO. In fact, DS never slept in a crib there - only in a swing or bouncy seat, then eventually a nap mat. I was VERY surprised by how well he adapted to napping there. I rarely heard babies crying at all!

It is such an adjustment but for most parents and babies I know, it went better than expected. Good luck!

@TheReelDeal: sounds familiar lol. My mom always heard a story from someone who knows someone...it's an off limits topic for us.....anyways, you know the place you send your kid and their rules and that's what matters.

Our daycare has a rule that they can only let the babies cry 10-15 min before getting them up. Partly to not disturb the other sleeping babies! And they wouldn't even attempt to CIO for those 10-15 min unless you as parents were ok with it.

@blackbird: @lulumom: I am going to meet with the principle next week and clarify.

My mom has no daycare experience, haha! I have no clue where she got this idea from and I'm so close to just never asking her opinion on anything baby related because it's clear we have very different philosophies.

Agreed with @blackbird, we are at an in home daycare and they never let my daughter CIO. Even when I suggested (much later in time like 5 months old) that we had some success with it at night did they even attempt to try it if she was battling naps. I would double check with your daycare/provider and se their policy. They did let her in her crib if she was content and not crying but not sleeping, this I'm okay with, learning to self-soothe. But never at 2 months old.

Um no. Not at my daughters in home. Does your mom have any daycare experience? Have you met with one yet? Now, sometimes T couldn't pick E up if another kid was getting a diaper changed or something but she wasn't just left to CIO to sleep at 3 months old

My mom was a SAHM and the thought of daycare horrified her, so she had all kinds of unfounded notions about it

In a couple of weeks baby girl is going to daycare ( :crying: ), and before talking to my mother I was warming up to it. She seems to think that at daycare they will let the infants cry until they fall asleep. Has this been anyone else's experience? That seems like a bit much for an 8 week old.
