@Pumuckl: oh, definitely aware :) I think the sleep regression kicked off a month ago when he learned how to crawl, pull to stand, and cruise all in the same week. From what I read, the regression can also start in month 8, since it's usually linked to learning those skills :) I think he's past it, plus I need a three day weekend for sleep training, so this is my opportunity.

I'm not helpful on the CIO topic since we were lucky that LO1 STTN on his own from 11m on and LO2 did after one night of "sleep training" as described by Mrs. Oatmeal in one of her blog posts. Just wanted to make you aware that typically there is a major sleep regression around 9-10m so maybe you are in the thick of that.

@brownepiano: @Dahlia: we did a similar system, with extended checks, and it worked for about a month each time ( no milk until 1, then 3, then 5.) We either need to cut the checks down or out.

We did Ferber at 10 months. DD was fighting bedtime and would stay awake in the MOTN for an hour +. I didn't want to cut out her nursing session right away, but I stopped rocking her back to sleep in the middle of the night. She fussed a little, but didn't really cry. About 2 weeks later she started STTN on her own.

We did similarly to brownepiano. We started with CIO before 1am, but regular nursing at later wakeups. Then we extended it to 4.. In 3 or 4 days she was down to one wake up a night.

Instead of dealing with all the wakings equally, we decided that any wakings before 1 am he wasn't going to get fed and had to go back to sleep. We did cio with no checks when he woke up at 9/10 pm. Then when he finally went to sleep, he didn't wake up till 3 am. After about two nights He was only waking once at night
I actually don't remember how we got him to drop that last night waking/feeding.

Eta we did extinction for both. Bedtime wasn't really a struggle though, it was nighttime wakings that were the problem for us.

We did CIO with checks for our first son and extinction for second son. Just based on their personalities and previous sleep schedules. Yep, same method for MOTH wake-ups. Let them cry or replace pacifier and then let cry. Pat or shush or stand near them if they benefit from that but we always avoiding picking up unless sick!!

We did strict Ferber at 5 months, including motn. DD never cried more than 10min motn, and it only took maybe a week until she sttn reliably. Good luck!

I don't have the energy to go into tons of detail, but basically, LO is 9.5m and wakes up every 2-4 hours and bedtime is difficult. He STTN months 2, 3, 5, and 7, so I know these wakings are not necessary. We did a very simplified, nicer (???) version of Ferber twice and it worked but didn't stick. We plan to sleep train and nap train starting tomorrow night with either extinction CIO or strict Ferber. Here and there we've done CIO for a waking or a bedtime and he falls asleep within 5-8 min so I know it's doable.

My main question is, if you did extinction CIO or checks, did you use that same method of MOTN wakings? I can handle CIO for 15-20 min at bedtime, but I don't know if I can do it every 2-4 hours.... :-/ my resolve might weaken.
