@lollipop: try using a nipple shield. It may be easier for him to transition to and it will protect your nipple a bit. If you can get him to use it just until he gets the milk flowing and then try to unlatch and relatch without the shield.

Fortunately with the pumping, my milk has come in. I think he has a case of nipple confusion since we had to use the bottle to feed him. Day 2 to 4 were really challenging because I think he was in pain and my breasts were super engorged, making it even harder for him to latch. Thus, fast forward to day 9, we still haven't had a successful bf session. He pulls and yank at my nipple causing quite a bit of pain so then I gave up and give him the pumped milk in a bottle instead. Hopefully the LC can help us this week.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this - hope it gets better soon!

We did not have any issue after DS's circ on Day 2. It didn't seem that it bothered him at all actually

Is your LO showing any other signs of discomfort down there? I'm certainly no expert but my hunch would be that the new latch issue isn't necessarily related to the circ (especially if he seems fine otherwise).

Good luck - I'm sure things will improve for you guys!

circumcision did not have an effect on nursing for either of my boys (also on day 2). i wonder if something else may be going on.

Hm are you sure your milk is in? I would be surprised if the circ is still affecting him now, 9 days out. Are you getting enough milk when you pump?

I hope the LC is helpful!

I'm sorry you guys are having trouble, and I hope the LC can help!

I don't have any experience, but I remember my OB saying if I wanted to have her circumcise my son, I should bring him in around day 8 or 9, when breastfeeding had been established.

ETA-I realize this response might sound really unhelpful, I didn't mean for that, just wanted to answer the question of whether the two things might be related. I'm sure you guys will resolve the issue and have a great nursing relationship!

My DS latch on great the first day post birth and i thought we were doing so well ( i know, only 1 day). On day 2, we had him circumcised and i think perhaps because of the pain, poor guy did not want to latch at all and now on day 9, he still isn't able to latch properly. I had to pump and bottle feed him since he's tugging on my nipple out of frustration, making nursing attempts quite painful. Will be seeing a LC in the next few days but i'm curious if anyone went through the same thing?
