@kiddosc: I know what you mean! After we separated the part on Xander that had reattached, I felt like the other side was having the same problem! I felt anxious for DAYS but finally got that side detached too and now the whole area looks "correct" to me! I always thought once you did the circumcision and it healed, you were good to go! I didn't know things could reattach and stuff!

@coacheswife123: @littlebittyhouse: Yea, we got instruction on how to take care of it while it was healing, but no direction after that. I've cleaned it well before after some nasty diapers, but it's never been something I specifically check.

@Adira: Now I need to wait until tonight until I can check it out. I've never been so impatient to check someone's junk, lol.

@kiddosc: same! i remember when he was little it would get a little nasty under the remaining foreskin and i would pull back a bit to clean. this is gross but his (male) pedi callled it 'head cheese' ewwwwww

I of course googled the crap out of this last night and most sites said that after the circ has healed there is nothing more that you need to do.

Seriously though, there should be an info sheet on how to care for a circ!

@kiddosc: If I were you, I'd check it yourself. And if you're concerned, bring it up at his next check-up. I'm honestly not sure if our pediatrician would have checked last time, but I was concerned and asked her to, which is how we found out he had some re-attaching happening. Now I know what to look for and we were able to detach the offending skin!

@coacheswife123: @Adira: thanks guys, so much to learn! DH doesn't have anything extra there though, it's completely gone. When I asked him, he assumed if there was extra skin the baby would just grow into it until it disappears.

@MrsCB: Yeah, there's still skin, so when his penis is all shriveled up, the head kind of sinks back into the skin that's there. Check out your husband in cold water - it's probably similar! So you have to just push that skin back so the whole head of his penis is free so nothing tries to reattach. It's easy and as long as you do it from the beginning, you'll be all set. My pediatrician said you want to push it back so you see the deep purple line that circles the head. Not sure if that makes sense, but it will once your boy is here!

Also, I don't think you have to start doing it IMMEDIATELY. We put vaseline and guaze on his penis for the first couple weeks while it was healing and I doubt you need to push it back during that time. Plus the vaseline will help keep things from reattaching anyway. It's after that that you have to start doing it. That's my understanding anyway.

@coacheswife123: Yeah, we had to pull the skin apart (cue crying on this Mama's part because I thought we were torturing the poor baby) on Saturday and we've been putting vaseline on it ever since. It's definitely getting better and Xander doesn't seem to be in pain. It's definitely better to fix any issues now while they are still young!!

@coacheswife123: We didn't get much instruction on how to care for Xander's either and we weren't pulling the skin back and he had a bit of refusing happening, which we discovered at his 4 month checkup! :( We had to pull it back to separate it again and it was so red. I felt so horrible. :( But Xander didn't seem overly concerned about it, so I'm guessing it didn't hurt him too badly. We're reapplying vaseline now to the area to help it heal and hopefully help prevent any refusing happening.

So... if I were you, I'd keep pulling the skin back, and if it's red, maybe put some vaseline on it. :)

our ped told us to apply vaseline everytime we pulled back the skin...and that seemed to help (we apply almost during every diaper change)

unfortunately, we found out the hard way that we needed to do this - when the doctor did this during his 4 month visit, DS screamed in pain so ever since then, vaseline has been our best friend
