@Mrs. Oatmeal: gLad he's doing better! From what I understand a circ later (like over a week old) is very different recovery than if they have it done right away. So it sounds like it really was causing the pain!

Update: my sweet little man is back! We took the gauze off (as recommended by the doc), and he's like a new baby! I wonder if the bulky bandage had something to do with it (irritating or tugging).
Thank you for all of your input! I feel like a FTM all over again with these boy issues!

Like PP, my son was circumcised 48 hours after he was born, and didn't seem to bother him while I was anticipating a lot of pain for him!

However, does it look inflamed or irritated? Is it rubbing against his diaper maybe? I know we were told to put vaseline on a lil square gauze to wrap around his penis to prevent sticking.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: I don't think it is circ related either. My LO had it done on day 3 in the hospital and was only a little extra sleepy that day. He never seemed physically uncomfortable after that and nothing requiring pain meds at all. At exactly one week later he woke up and it was perfectly healed and no longer red. It's sounds like your LO is probably going through a growth spurt or developmental leap (Wonder Weeks).

Does it look ok? If so I would think it's more likely to be a newborn thing.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: It sounds unrelated to the circumcision to me. My son around 3-4 weeks hated his rock n play and would only sleep with me. My son has reflux and even an incline didn't help him. It took a long time to get things sorted out for us and now he's on prilosec. I would call your dr and see what they say. :goodluck:

@Mrs. Oatmeal: I'm so sorry, I know that's stressful! Could just be a fussy period, reflux, food intolerance... Maybe give your peds office a call tomorrow and see if they have any ideas?

@Mrs. Deer: I think so? Lots of gas pain/discomfort after feeding, lots of spitting up. I was unsure what was normal as far as spitting up goes, and what might be a sign of something ore.

Very interesting!! Thank you for everyone's opinions!
He is 3 weeks old, and the behavior started the day after the circumcision, that's why I assumed it was related.
Maybe he just outgrew the sleepy newborn phase at the same time, and it's not related?

Now I'm panicking a little, because he was totally content to sleep in his bassinet for the last two weeks, and now he won't sleep anywhere except my arms. I was hoping it was circumcision related and it would be over soon!

@Eko: @MrsF: @Mamasig: I agree. My son was also had it done day 2 in the hospital and he did not even bothered by it at all. My OB, who did the procedure, said to apply lots of Vaseline so the diaper wouldn't irritate it. He also gave us instructions in when to remove the gauze and other aftercare instructions, which I can't remember - sorry. I just remember the Vaseline. I also agree with @daniellemybelle: that's maybe it's just typical newborn behavior? My son was extra sleepy and calm in the hospital and the first week but I think around week 2-3 we had a more difficult time. Good luck! Hang in there mama! Hope things get better soon!!!

My son had it done at the hospital around day 10, day he was released from NICU. It didn't bother him at all. Is he inflamed or have some kinda discharge? Why do you think it's the circumcision?

Is it possible this is just newborn behavior rather than pain? My daughter was like this and she was obviously not circumcised. Are you breastfeeding and if so, is your milk in?

How old is your LO? My DS was circumcised on day two in the hospital. It didn't seem to bother him at all and I noticed considerable improvement after 2-3 days. Probably completely healed in a week. But, if your LO is older the recovery might be different.

My little man was circumcised on Thursday night, and he was much more relaxed and comfortable than I expected that night. However, for the last two days/nights, he won't let me put him down- he wants to sleep in my arms, and needs to be rocked or bounced constantly.

I know he's probably uncomfortable- we are giving him Tylenol to ease any pain, but he must still be in a bit of pain. I haven't gotten more than 15 minutes of sleep at once in the last 48 hours and I'm exhausted.

How long did recovery take for your little guy? When was he feeling back to normal?
