If he's not working when a baby is born, you have to go private some where. (Ontario, canada). We talked about it ahead of time (we already saw him for LO1) and he gave us he option of the hospital (he has privileges) or the office. He suggested the office because it gave the baby a little more time to adjust to being on the outside and there was a lower co pay with insurance. </p> <p>Our ped has been in practice for 30 years and has done a million so I totally trust him. I watched the whole thing and it was very interesting. We choose a mohel as well by recommendation of our midwives. In the end (this was our first child) it ended up being a better option for us. W was 2 weeks old so we had gotten use to diaper changes, learned his cries a bit and adjusted. We have his follow up appointment next week.</p> <p>We billed insurance and it was $234 (we have a $250 deductible per year). A mohel has super experience since they do these constantly (obviously you'd have to research your specific one). And at a bris they're doing it with an audience so they're used to trying to minimize distress to all involved. Also I liked that we could hold him for the procedure. I looked away, it was done and I could nurse him right away. I delivered at a teaching hospital, and it's usually the interns/residents who draw the short straw to do it. Rotating residents in different specialties, family med residents, etc. I have a family med doc friend who has done a ton, and it's a relatively easy procedure IF IT GOES RIGHT but it's going to have lifelong implications for your son. Make sure you're informed before they go in. We paid cash and did not bill our insurance. My OB is a woman and the pediatrician is a male so my husband wanted the ped to do it because "he'll have more concern for the penis" :silly: I didn't have a strong preference and my son was my second child so we'd been working with our pediatrician for 3 years already so I love and trust him completely. In the end I'm very glad we picked our ped because of course I went in to labor 2 week early and my OB was flying out of town to visit family so I was delivered by the on call OB.
