We are in walking distance, but where I used to live it was common to make an agreement with a taxi/car service driver to meet you and your kids each morning at the same time for school drop off. Perhaps ask around and see if something like this exists near you?

I'd either switch daycares or hire a nanny. Convenience is important in already busy lives

Oh, another thought - friends in our neighborhood don't have a car at all; they take their daughter to/from daycare on the bus some days, on the dad's bike other days. Though I guess two kids is harder on a bike(s). I have seen it around here though.

@PawPrints: That was my thought too - I do drop off and pick up every single day

@yellowbird: is your DH against doing drop off and pick up?

We don't have a car. We take LO to school via the bus and on nice days sometimes we walk home after school. Are there no bus options near you?

I don't get why your DH can't do dropoff and pickup? That's what we do right now, DH has always done dropoff and pickup. We live in a city and share a car.

Soon LO is going to switch to a daycare in our neighborhood though, and then we will swap so DH does dropoff and I do pickup. We will both walk to/from daycare and take the bus to work.

Our daycare is about 1.2 miles away. I either walk with the stroller or take 2 buses

I bike or walk with the stroller. When I bike to daycare, I do drop off (and leave the seat/helmet there, then bike to work. You could easily bike two miles and then to the train station. Otherwise we do a combo of walking/bus.

We're in the same situation. Thankfully DH has a flexible schedule, so he's responsible for the lion share of dropoff and pickups. If there's some reason he can't do it, we coordinate so that he can take the train and I bring the car to my office and pay an insane amount of money to park :)

We're in the same situation - DH takes the car, I take the train. He does drop off and pick up. If there's an issue and we have to pick up DS from daycare, DH just has to be the one to do it.

We walk. We are lucky in that there were two daycares along my walking route to work so we just applied to both and ended up at one. Most people either walk or drive, but there are a few who take the bus or bike (with a kid seat or trailer).

In your case, I'd recommend you either find a new place along your husband's driving route, or else along your train route, or within walking distance of your home, or near one of your offices (although this is less convenient).

What about the bus? I do the majority of drop-off and pick-up for H in the summers, but if I don't have the car and he's out of commission, I can usually take the bus there and then home. We are a one car family too.

We are trying to figure this out. We only have one car and I ride the train to school. My husband will most likely be driving to work when he starts (train doesn't go there.)

Our two kids will be going to a daycare about 2 miles away - definitely not walkable and no close train stop.

I'm thinking we're going to have to move them because... How am I supposed to help at all if I can't get to them? There are very limited options walking distance but I'm praying we can find a spot. Otherwise I don't see how we can make it work.

What do you do??
