At that age I don't think anything will work. My LO used to bite when she was older but she would look me in the eyes and laugh so that was a whole different thing.

DD bit me twice when she first got teeth. i was shocked so i yelled and swatted her. she cried hard. i realized that it was because we were side lying, so she thought she was playing. after that, i always nursed her upright. she never bit me again.

I don't think saying "no biting, you hurt mommy" in a firm voice would be bad, but she definitely won't understand yet. If it were me I would probably do it just so she can start learning what no means but I don't think it's necessary. I've always heard that unlatching them when they bite/clamp & trying again later usually works.

I startled DS accidentally and he had a three day nursing strike. I wouldn't recommend a scare. Maybe slip a finger in to break her suction and irritate her a bit when she clamps?

For me, she only does that when a new tooth is coming through. I'd just say "ouch" loudly when she bit down, and that usually startled her a little (honestly, it was more of a reflex than me trying to teach her).
Now that she's 8 months and has four teeth, I definitely say "no biting" when she bites me. YIKES.

C did the same thing. She also only did it for 3 or 4 days (and I was working so only nursing 3x/day) and as soon as it was a "problem" it was over.

it feels so long ago now. I remember Olivia doing the same, and i'd unlatch her and then start over. if she kept doing it, we stopped nursing. I only ever yelled "no!" when she BIT me, and she never did it again. I yelled purely out of reflex, I never yelled (or yell) at her.

I found that she started doing that once she was done for the most part! so it wasn't a huge issue to stop the nursing session and try again later.

I'm pretty sure that DD is teething. She's 5 months, has no teeth but she's started to really clamp down and gum me while nursing. Usually it's not when she first starts and is really hungry but a few minutes into the feeding.

I'd really like to nip this in the bud before she actually has teeth and thinks it's okay to bite me. My mom says to pull her off and firmly tell her no. My aunt says to pull her off and kind of give her a little flick on the mouth. She still seems soooo young though and I'm skeptical that she'll understand that those mean to stop the behavior.

Does anyone have anything that they did that actually worked?
