@mamimami: So, I looked up that book, I'd probably add something else to it. It's about $12 on Amazon in the US, and I'd bump it up.

I also spend around 20-35 dollars. The book I am thinking of actually cost $15 and has a music CD inside. So I felt like I should add something but at the same time I felt like I was cheapening the book a little by adding something. It is a cool book -- Octopus' Garden like the Beatles song. Anyway, I am probably way overthinking it!

I spend around $20. I find it to be the sweet spot where I can get a decent enough "sized" gift.

FWIW, the classmate parties that we have been invitied to and attended were all held at facilities and I feel obligated to spend a little more than the cost of a book, which equates to about $4 or less.

@mamimami: there was a recent thread in this and i think the consensus was around $15? My LO and her school friends are all turning 3. So far we have done Melissa and Doug puzzles ($10) because their class is kind of obsessed, and a Melissa and Doug dress up set ($20) for a "closer" friend that had a smaller party. For the party next weekend I am planning to do art supplies but will see what looks good at target next week. I will aim to spend $10-15.

My daughter's party is in about a month and I am so curious to see how the gifting is handled so I have a better sense of "typical", you know?

About how much do you spend on preschool (or daycare) classmate birthday parties?

Related: would one hardback picture book be "enough"? Or would you do two?
