I just finally scheduled a cleaning lady to come this week. I had two tecs, one who did a better job but was hard to coordinate with, and one who does an ok job but is easy to schedule. I'm glad I went with the easy to schedule one! Also I'm super excited to finally have a clean house! I suck at cleaning.

When our son was home with a nanny, i actually made it part of the nannys job description to coordinate with the cleaning lady, so she knew upfront that this would be something to prioritize and juggle. The cleaning lady was late a few times, but at least she understood my sons nap schedule and would clean accordingly. If this had seemed like it was becoming a big problem for my nanny, i would have found a new cleaning lady. Even though it's a pain to find a new one when you are home during the day you need hired help to be on time so you can stick to the schedule.

@Mrs.Someone: this is my exact situation. I WAH but my cleaning lady had a major tardiness problem or would constantly want to switch days. Even though I'm almost always here to let her in, the unpredictability was making me crazy (along with a clash of personalities). I also needed her to be on time because DD only goes to daycare half days and comes home for a nap every day, so I need her to be done or close to done when DD comes home so that she can sleep in peace. I just recently fired her. I haven't found a replacement yet though.

@Bluebonnet: Yep, that's the exact problem. But I'm frustrated that they can't let me know if their schedule changes. There is a little bit of a language barrier too, so that can be part of the issue. Either way, I'm looking for someone new.

@Mrs.Someone: part of the problem is the same crew is probably cleaning multiple house before yours. If they run late or need to spend additional time at another clients house, they get off schedule which impacts when they arrive at your house. See if you can get the first appointment of the day - that should help.

I WAH and our kids are also home (with a nanny) while I work. Our cleaning people come by 8:30am. They clean my office and the nursery first - so there is minimal disruption for me and the baby can take a nap when she's ready.

Talk to the owner and explain you need them to either consistently come at a time that works for you or you need to find another service. If they care about your business they will find a way to make it work.

oh i don't think that's acceptable at all! an hour late?!?! a lot of people get a slap on the wrist if not fired for constant tardiness to work.

I gave up on another service when they didn't show up on time. I didn't care when I worked out of the house, but couldn't deal when I worked at home with a baby.

3:40pm, and they just got here :P Thought about sending a note cancelling services with my payment (I hand them a check to pass on), but I want to make sure I have another crew coming before I do.

No idea how people clean house with having kids! I have a hard enough time cooking the few times I've tried...

I'm getting really frustrated with my cleaning crew. They come every other week, and its a guessing game as to what time they will show up. They're supposed to be here at 2:30pm. I've asked them not to come earlier, but they have come at 2pm a few times. It's now 3:30pm, and no sign. I kindof feel like I'm being unreasonable for not being OK with this, but it's really frustrating sitting around waiting for them. And it always results in a overtired baby, since I can't put him down for a nap in the room they need to clean. Occasionally I get a text from the owner (who doesn't come herself), to tell me they'll be late, but usually nothing. And I tried asking her to send a text when they were on their way, but that didn't work either.

So is it unreasonable to fire them if they don't show up by 4pm? (They don't have a key). If they do show up soon, my plan is to leave the house to occupy DS since he'll be calm in the car at least. I'm going to look for a new service regardless, since I'm tired of this.

I know, first world problems :P
