Miss A was a very noisy feeder and for her it was caused by a combo of lip and tongue tie and my strong letdown and fast flow. Some of the clicking was the sound of her losing suction and she did grow out of it as her mouth got bigger

Mine did that- it was tongue and lip tie.

@heartonastring: I would know if it was thrush, right? Like it would be way more painful? I think she might have a little bit of an issue with the letdown but now she's kind if doing it throughout. I'm glad to hear she might just out grow it though.

I feel like I have enough milk but not a ton so I hate to waste it expressing it into a towel!

M did that. My midwife said it could be because the flow is a bit fast, so she took breaks. She just to spit some of my milk out at the same time. She eventually just stopped doing it... so no advice I guess.

Two things that pop into my head with regard to clicking:

1. Thrush
2. Forceful letdown causing baby to unlatch

ETA: I've seen my LC help women whose babies are clicking during feeds, and in their case it's been due to overactive letdown. She has them do reclined feeds and it generally eliminates the problem. You can also try to catch your initial letdown in a towel/burp cloth and then latch your LO after it's slowed a little.

@MrsLilybugg: I read it came happen if you let down too fast for the baby, which sounds like you. But mine does it through out. I did finally get a really deep latch and she stopped but its hard!

my LO does that too! I kind of hold her head with my hand against my nipple. I find she does that at the beginning.. Like overexcited and hungry

C is three weeks old. Nursing is going ok but in the last few days she has started making a sucking or smacking kind of noise a lot while she is eating. I know that means she doesn't have a great latch and is breaking suction, so I keep trying to relatch and the same thing keeps happening. My nipples are getting sore, but not totally painful. I don't know what to do. Any advice?
