We have a climber and from my experience, there isn't much you can do. She does love our shoes, so I have her play with those while I take a quick shower. But otherwise, I'm hovering over her because she won't stop climbing. (The most dangerous being our 6 ft ladder)...

I agree with above, just keep a close eye on her. Mine is a crazy climber too, and last weekend she climbed on top of the sofa and took a bad fall on her forehead. It was my fault, as i should've been supervising her.

I don't think it's necessary to discourage it, but if she climbs and stands on something unstable, i am quick to tell her (firmly) to sit down.

@littlek: I really want these but just can't get myself to fork over the money for them. If he hates them, I'm out $170. Maybe I'll put them on his Amazon wish list for Christmas.

We have an intense 16 month old climber, and I just have to keep my eye on him. It's crazy the hi-jinks he gets himself in to lately. I let him get as crazy as he wants with me around, though. It's good for coordination and to wear him out.

@mslipgloss that sounds very familiar :) although P doesn't like to cuddle... Just the human dummy! :)

@littlek - those look great! I think she'd love some soft climbing toys! I just need to channel her energy for good instead of mischief!

@mrs.cookie: Yes, I don't stop him from climbing, I just make it supervised. I shower before LO wakes up, but if I don't I keep him in the bathroom with me. We have a very large bathroom like @MsLipGloss so I have a basket of toys in there he can play with.

My LO isn't quite walking yet (she turns 1 soon), but she can climb our stairs in about a minute! I just have to keep eyes on her at all times. I take her into the bathroom with me, but our bathroom is the size of a bedroom and she can sit in the main area and play with toys. I keep a few things in the cabinets for her to play with, and she also just loves to cruise around the tub. It is so hard to do basic things!

@littlek - that's a good idea, I don't want to forbid her to climb as she's really enjoying herself, but definitely don't want to land on anything sharp!

@mrs.cookie: My LO is a climber too. The only thing I do is keep very close attention to what he is doing and make sure there are no sharp objects around him in case he falls.

I need some pointers on how to deal with a climbing toddler!

DD just turned 1 and has been walking for about 6 weeks. In the last week she's started climbing. A lot. She's climbing everything and very quick and quiet. I'm terrified she's going to hurt herself.

She's completely fearless, and seems to have zero sense about danger (not that I'd expect different at 12 m). My son didn't walk til 16 m and is still super cautious so this is a shock to the system!

Any tips? I just resorted to putting her into her stroller so I knew she'd be safe while I showered - the photo below is what happened when I left her to use the bathroom earlier! It is kinda cute but I need to work out how to keep her safe...
