@shopaholic: following! Definitely have a climber at 14 months! She understands she needs help going down and typically asks for help, which I appreciate. But honestly if I turn my head for five seconds while cleaning up after dinner she's usually scaled her high chair and is trying to sit in it.... Hugs :)

@Mrs Green Grass: oh no! I hope not! I think K is becoming more aware and cautious, but last weekend's fun times with her older cousins have sometimes set her into flop-frenzy moments where she seems to forget about anything else.

@shopaholic: Dylan isn't cautious, but he seems sorta smart about it in a way if that makes sense. Since he can get off of things pretty well, he seems to know if something is too far...but watch now he's gonna fall tonight!

I see this in my future. C is generally pretty cautious but she loves climbing. The only thing holding her back right now is that she's still too short. I'm teaching her how to get off the couch safely but otherwise I don't know what we will do so I'm interested to see the responses.

Um, Xander's latest thing is climbing onto the coffee table, walking to the edge, and throwing himself off (usually in my direction, I guess hoping I'm paying enough attention to catch him, which isn't always the case).

I saw "Be careful" a lot and sometimes I'll remove him from the situation if he's not listening and I think he'll get hurt. I wouldn't really say it's working though...

@shopaholic: Cautious, no. But maybe more aware of her limitations? She pretty much understands the idea of an edge and that there may be consequences if she chooses to ignore that edge. Not that she can articulate this obviously but I see it in the way she explores. She pretty adventuresome but also, I think self aware and in control of her body.

@Mrs Green Grass: If only she'd stop.

@birdofafeather: If I remember correctly, R is a *little* bit more cautious than K? :silly:

um.... yeah. i dunno. my kid is a climber.... i do a lot of asking her to get down. i do let her explore though as long as it's safe because i do want her to know her limits. she's a bit more careful when i'm passively spotting her than when i am hunting her down to not climb. so i assess the situation and try to temper my reaction accordingly...

(as an aside, it makes me laugh because both of you @shopaholic: and @Mrs Green Grass: have seen my kid climb all over stuff. :) )

How do you teach your LO not to climb on chairs, sofas, furniture, etc? K can get on top of everything now, and also learned to flop herself all over the place after a weekend with her older cousins. She doesn't quite understand the difference of hard and soft yet and I'm terrified she'll fall off the sofa and hurt herself. I don't mind her climbing and sitting on the sofa, it's the jumping and flopping all over part that freaks me out. She's hit her head and fallen a couple times and doesn't seem to care or remember. My friend's daughter did this and broke her collarbone.

She thinks timeouts and NO are funny. Any suggestions?
