I got it!! I talked to an LC this morning and she seemed very concerned that I had such a large lump for so long. So I left work (with a really bizarre email to my boss) and headed home to take more showers, ice, & drink sage tea like it was my job. I massaged just as hard as before but this time it worked. The milk spray wasn't epic in flow like I expected but it sprayed continuously for about 5 minutes.

Thanks for your help ladies!

I also got a clogged duct while weaning. I never pumped or nursed just cooled it and drank lots and lots of sage tea (which is a lactation inhibitor) and physically took it slowly. I hand expressed the really swollen canals for 2 days but that was it. It cleared up after about a week.

I was pregnant and the Dr. and midwife all encouraged me to try to get rid of it naturally without meds.

I got a clogged duct when weaning. I wasn't sure what to do because I wanted to stop producing milk but needed to get the clog out. I ended up massaging it in the shower and a huge spray of milk came shooting out, and then that was it! I mostly dried up after that. Maybe try again with warm compresses and firm massages in the shower. If you have a hard lump, you probably still have milk stuck in there. I wouldn't pump or nurse either.

@owlmom: Thanks, I thought about taking sudafed but I'm also TTC #2. I don't know all the rules about that in the TWW. Google is not being too helpful. According to the first results you take sudafed to increase the chances of having a girl??? I'll keep looking on HB.

Ugh, that sucks. If it's still hard, you probably haven't gotten duct completely unblocked. I wouldn't pump anymore or nurse. I'd probably try massaging it out in a hot shower and hand expressing. You may want to take an OTC decongestant like sudafed - that can help decrease milk production so no additional milk gets backed up behind the plug. I hope it works it's way out soon!

I nursed LO for the last time Thursday night. I pumped Friday night, the evening without nursing, but I woke up Saturday with a clogged duct. I pumped and massaged, massaged and pumped. I'm not sure if I got the clog or not. It doesn't hurt anymore but it still feels like I have a rock in my boob, about 2" x 2".

Could this just be bruising from a cleared clog? Am I doomed to have a lumpy boob forever? Do I keep pumping even though I'm not engorged and so ready to be done? I really don't want to feed LO again because weaning has been pretty hard on her.
